In this issue, the arguer presents a pretending dilemma that tradition and modernization are incompatible so that the people should only choose one of them. In my pragmatic point of view, tradition is the original source of modernization, modernization is the sublimation from tradition and by a good and correct way of development, and they benefit each other in almost every aspect. Therefore, people should not choose just one of them, and people ought to balance them.

On one hand, tradition refers to the characteristic of a nation or society, such as the way people dress, the pattern people think and the arts the people create, whatever is hardly changing but always accumulating, and, to some extent, differentiates from others. On the other hand, modernization means the breakneck revolution of life quality, contemporary civilization and of improving technology, but not the replacement of any exist culture. Thus, by their clearly defined conceptions, tradition accumulates for modernization and modernization refines the tradition without fundamental conflicts to the other side. They are two sides of one coin. To use this coin, people choose the whole, not any solo side.

In the first place of my view, tradition always lends inexhaustible resources to be used for modernization, such as the cultural wisdom in the government management of the country, the hard-working personality of people during the industrialization and the retrospective thinking in review and development of creative science and technology. With different kinds of traditional resources, the modernized developments are also various in different countries. For example, China becomes the biggest world manufacture by the diligent and flexible personality, Japan thrives in many high-tech fields because they are extremely careful in working, and US stands as the most creative country by their newly tradition of precise scientific research. These three big countries are good examples of compatible modernization and tradition because their people choose both of them.

Secondly, modernizations should give respects to the tradition; otherwise, people will not accept the change and the revolution will fail. That is, when people choose to improve their lives, they also want to preserve their root habits. There are many failures of modernization regardless of traditions, such as the US and UK's invasion of Iraq, which brings the disasters upon the people by forcing them to accept the invasive change. In the recent days, Iraq people hold an intensive demonstration to memorize the war between the former government of Saddam Hussein and Bush led white house of US. What US think is that the tradition does not go with the modernization in Iraq and even the development of US, but US fail to consider too much about the desperate people, leaving them with no choice for their own life. While the US modernization tries to get rid of or even just tame Iraq tradition, the chaos goes further. The same or similar tough pain happened in Afghanistan, Vietnam and North Korea. What it indicates is that modernization should be compatible to tradition; if not, choosing only one of them is hopeless for another and the whole development of country.

Last but not least, although sometimes the old fashion might hamper the speed of new creation and sometimes the novel idea might damage the preservation of past thinking, the modernization and tradition are still the twins in the advancing progress of a society, quarreling, fighting and cooperating for the future.

In conclusion, the modernization and tradition coexist and never substitute each other. Despite some possible and tolerable conflicts happened in the process of developing, it is the procedure that modernization and tradition integrate with each other to be compatible. In avoid of prejudice of any side of this coin, people benefit from balancing the development of tradition and modernization.
