As such a lot people we have to communicate everyday and everywhere, we want to choose the most effective way to change our ideas and values. As the most useful and most usual tool, language has been used to communicate and express for a long time, due to the special and the dissubstitutable charm. But in this world full of image, communication through image has become an essential and even indispensable way for mind exchange among large groups of people.

The most obvious advantage of image is that it is visible, which can provide deep impression, straight presentation and more believable, especially when the idea you are expressing is abstract and even hard to accept. For example, it has been many years since someone who claimed he saw a UFO, an airship of the aliens. But without the visible evidence, the public could not believe this, as all the images about UFO now come from imagination. If one can provide a photo of the time he saw, it can prove that the aliens are the creation really in the universe. So image can do something that mere language could not do, especially in changing minds with a lot of people.

However, like everything in the world, image has its own disadvantage, which causes ambiguity sometimes. Owing to different culture background and ranking in dissimilar recognition, people pose various understanding for the same image. Take the most famous artwork Mona Lisa’s smile, a fantastic painting by Vinci, as an example. Years by Years, new comprehends about this painting are put forward to the world and many experts change their minds. If Vinci had left something written to demonstrate this painting, all of these arguments would not exist, and we get the real idea what Vinci want to tell us through this image, with the cost of art research as part of charm of art. Another example, that is a stylist’s plan is more effective than the words especially including the colors hard to express, may be more perusable.

Admittedly, language is a traditional communicate tool with its merits that giving more details and with its flaws that it also lead to misunderstanding sometimes. So the most effective way to communication is the combine of these two means together. For supporting examples one need look no further than the way of education. Nowadays, teachers in college often initiate knowledge with slide show besides explanation. Neither one is dispensable to build the students’ fundamental basis of knowledge, as living pictures can help apprehends of the abstract definition.

In conclusion, in this era communication domain, argument in either way, language or image which is more effective is not a sound idea. The most effective way to communicate is that a compound of these two methods, image and language.

[language 包不包括文字，我觉得通常大家认为是包括的吧，难道我们学语言仅仅学口语而不学文字吗？另外idea and value可以等同于信息的传播吗？我觉得只有主观的观念想法才可以叫思想，比如说柏拉图，亚里士多德的思想，对客观事物的简单介绍描述不能算思想，一个人声称他看到了飞碟算什么思想]
