Are the problems people encountered today more complex and challenging than problems faced by their predecessors? The speaker doesn't believe this and asserts that the opinion will be eventually dispelled with increased knowledge and experience. I will illustrate my point of view in several aspects.
In the first place, with the development of technology and human ideology, the problems we face today are more difficult and complex than before. We need more wisdom to analyze and solve these problems. I'd like to give three examples to show specifically their complexity.
The first one I want to mention is the problem of population, resources and the environment. With the increase of the population of the globe and large consumption of resources on earth, the human beings now have to face the severe problem of further development. What is more, they have to pay much attention to ameliorate and protect the environment. This complex problem is challenging because we need to seek a balance between development and environmental protection. All kinds of political measures should be taken and lots of laws should be enacted to ensure the enforcement.
Globalization, which was the most important trend in the late 19th century, is more and more heavily affect countries' relationship as well as people's lives. Different nations will dependent more on each other, no matter politically, culturally or economically. Government and its people have to face and deal with this complex issue.
The third problem is about some ethic issues. With the development of science and technology, some problems, such as cloning and euthanasia, attract more people's attention. We have to make a balance of this medical, scientific and at the same time ethic problem which, we never thought of it several centuries ago.
From the discussion above, we can be sure that people today tend to face more difficult and challenging problems than before. But there are some that just like before. For instance, there are problems such as the communication between men and women, husbands and wives, prejudice, discrimination, war and crime. All these kinds of social problems are not totally solved today, and we just encountered almost the same problems as our ancestors.
In conclusion, there are challenging problems today that more difficult to solve, but at the same time, we encounter the little changed problems our predecessors ever faced.
