Issue 196 “Technology creates more problems than it solves, and may threaten or damage the quality of life.”

In the era of technology explosion, we benefit from it more than we have expected, yet in this issue the speaker presents his worry that the problems created by modern technology may harm even damage our life quality. Here I want to say this is an excessive fear about technology progress. In fact the true problem arises from the bottom of human nature, not the tools in their hands.
        
Firstly, instead of threatening or damaging our personal life, technology has brought us more convenience and improvement in the quality of life, which makes us benefit from it enormously. From all aspects we dare to proclaim that nowadays society is more advanced than every period in history. Through the internet we can acquire nearly all information we want, just several clicks on the mouse or keyboard. Transport means help us to travel among different countries, it is no longer a terrible voyage, but a comfortable enjoyment. What’s more, with the improvement in medical research and clinical technology, individual life-span has been prolonged dramatically in recent decades, from every area it can be indicated that technology makes people enjoy a luxurious life style which is even out of the imagine in the old times.

Admittedly, technology amounts to a double-edged sword, with the advantages it brings to us, many problems have been produced simultaneously. But in fact, the true evil and disputes always arise from their users, the human being, not themselves. For instance, the invention of nuclear power should be utilized by people properly at first, regretfully more and more threaten and destruction caused by nuclear weapons has came into our sight, instead of power house and nuclear energy. Another example concerns that the invasion and destruction in the virtual world by hackers, we could not impute it to the internet or computer; it is the evil when people is pursuing personal behalf via a criminal method. Other problems, such as ethics disputes in society science, overflow of immoral information in internet etc, are just the same. The crucial resolving process is an advanced cultivation of human beings, especially the people who are inclined to utilize the technology to acquire their extreme desires.

What’s more, a meaningless fear about the development of technology would bog us down in the swamp of hesitation. It could not improve our society or individual life quality if we are waiting for a balance between technology progress and the problems it creates. Technology itself is innocent in many issues as the statement above; it could impulse the progress of development. An advisable choice is doing our endeavor to research and perfect the human nature to meet the basic needs in personality, which is necessary in the using of modern technology.

In sum, it’s unfair when people ascribe their improper deeds to the modern technology, just as a murder should be punished, not the knife in his hand. Undoubtedly technology has improved our life quality conspicuously, now society should treat this issue rationally, and turn to the mankind to find the root of these problems, only through this way can we solve them properly and thoroughly.
