*a person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.

1、  必须承认，艺术评论家引导公众去了解艺术，在一定意义上来说，他们可以给社会赋予艺术公众认可的价值，艺术的长久价值也仰赖于其发现。但公众的认同只能赋予艺术暂时的价值。
2、  然而就真正意义来说，艺术评论家对于艺术是一种重新的诠释，带有其主观色彩和其他影响因素，对于一个艺术作品来说，其作品的真正价值始终由其真正的创造者艺术家所赋予。
3、  而且，艺术评论家对于艺术的理解具有时代的局限性，对于一些艺术的先锋来说，其作品往往很难得到同时代艺术评论家的的认可，即使得到认可，随着时间不同，仍可以有新的认识，像这样的例子非常多。因此艺术作品其远期的长久的艺术价值很难通过艺术评论家来估量和实现。(如果一些作品依赖评论家实现其价值，早已被埋没)

Who is the essential, critic or artist, in the process of giving society something of lasting value? I admit that critic play an important role in conveying the really value to society. However, there is no denying the fact that artist created art work and gave it lasting value in reality.

  True, the critics can help commons understand and comprehend the art works. The essence of an art work deeply associates with the backdrop of era which the artist remain, the feelings of the circumstance he\she lives in and the enthusiasim he\she would like to convey. Lacking knowledge of fundamental of art, such essence is hardly comprehended and really appreciated by commons, , even though they might be amateurs. And the critic might be the gap between society and the art work itself. They will be guides who lead commons to explore the nucleus of great art works, show the impulse of the artist, imagine the verities of the opus, then they help art works being received by public. From view of the public’s aspect, critics help the art works achieve the social value.

  Beyond this concession, unfortunately, I contend that the social value to an art work linked to profit or faction frequently is not the lasting value of the society. To begin with, the social recognize might bring out a great deal of profit in modern society. It is hard to avoid that critics conveyed and estimated art works without objective attitude. In addition, consultting the remark made by Oscar Wilde in his writing “Picture of Dorian Gray”, “The artist is the creator of the beautiful things, art and conceal the artist is art’s aim. The critic is he who can translate into another manner or a new material his impression of beautiful things.” It is easy to reveal that artists created a piece of work blindness while the impulse of impressing beautiful, which is the essential of an opus, while the critics exhumed and translate the beautiful things subjectively. The subjective re-created which perform as “another manner or a new material” that is influenced by their own backdrop, knowledge, favourite, might divated from the aim of artist and misdirected the commons’ sense. All the factors mention above determined critics cannot carry out the lasting value of the art works.

  Moreover, for some pioneer of artist, whose thought exceeded the mainstream of their time, they are hardly recognized in contemporary, including the critics whose viewpoint is limited by the time. Consider, for example Van Gogh, Remberandt, Vermeer, etc. Their beautiful expressions cannot be shared by contemporary, but their own. Fortunately, their works can be found afterward, and made enormous impact and influenced the style of many later artists, which is the real meaning of so call “lasting value”. Nobody but the artist endue these buried treasures lasting value. Without the intrinsic value given by artist, can you imagine how many grand works are entombed? Can you imagine the art field can be forced only by the critic’s conduct?  Can you imagine the critic can given the value exceeded the art work itself?

  In sum, I concede that critic convey and translate the art work’s value to public is helpful. Nonetheless, to some extent, it is hard to say that critic can give society of lasting value. In the final analysis, the artist who created the art work is the only one who can translate and give the exact meaning to. Actually, it is the one who can endue works lasting value.

个人觉得还不错的习作呵呵。
由于词汇和表达上面有太多的生涩和错误的地方，十分难以看得深入。
从结构上来看是没有多大问题的。
