In the history of theprogress of human society, many brilliant thinkers and creative artistshas (have) been devoting to offer absolute profound comments upon the societyand the world. So there raise(s) a question whether these preeminentindividuals can live or work out of the steps with the age and thesocial conditions. Concerning this issue, I am prone to claim that eventhough the minds of these persons are more developed ahead of thecommon public, after it is the society and the people that these mindsare deriving from, thus they can live isolated from the society and theage.
To begin with, the value ofthose profound thinkers and creative artists are admired by thesociety, and of course they have made great achievement in promotingthe progress of the society. Looking back in the long history, most ofthe events or affairs that contribute to social revolutions areadvocated and led by the ingenious thinkers. That is because thesethinkers are able to make in-depth analysis social conditions and thenraise their unique judgments or decisions. Whereas such profoundjudgments or decisions would not be available for the mediocrities.Consider, for example, in the Second World War, thanks to the betteranalysis and decisions of the military situations by the leaders of themain power against the evil, peace would return to the world. Supposethe same situations are left to the most common people to decide, unfortunately the world would be dominated by darkness, and peoplewould never enjoy peaceful lives any longer.
Yet, that is not denyingthat the profound thinkers could live isolated from the public and thesociety. Their brilliant capacity, to much extent, derives from thecultivation of the society and supports by the public. Simply put, ifleft alone, even the most intelligent thinkers would not drawconclusions of any value. On the one hand, only on the basis ofanalysis of social conditions can the profound thinkers reveal realityor propose convincing suggestions. Suppose, if these thinkers arealways out of the steps of the age and society, they can not drawnecessarily effective analysis. Back to the history again, we caneasily discover that most of the great thinkers are the ones who caremost about the most ordinary people's need, desire and living habits, they combine their critical thinking with daily lives of the public, rather than stay alone and rack their brains to generate self-admiringbut in fact ridicules conclusion.
On the other hand, theostensible unique ways of thinking for these prominent individuals areindeed derived from the wisdoms of the public accumulated throughyears. As common sense, no brilliant thinkers, inventors and artistsare poor educated. No matter they receive knowledge from school orlearn by themselves, they are neutralized by the skills or experiencesof their ancestors. They successes are resulting most from thenecessary of knowledge but less from personal intelligence. The famoussaying by Einstein and I paraphrase that the success is made up of 99percent of effort, but only one percent of personal intelligence. Andthe 99 percent of effort involves mostly careful studies of knowledgeand skills from the public.
I can not neglect a finallysignificant point that the minds by the thinkers or creations by theorginal artists would only gain their success by being accepted by thepublic and the society. Even though most original minds or creationsreflect these individuals' excellent capacity, these minds or creationsequal to nothing if they are not admired at least accepted by thepublic. The ordinary people would treat these creative works as heresyand further be omitted and deserted by the society. Therefore, the realsuccessful individuals should have the ability of meeting the taste ofthe public, at least not arousing antipathy of the majority of people.
comments:
1. I think it is a bit diverted from the intention of this issue.
the major problem here is to discuss your view on:
whether great thinkers are in accord with their society, say opinion and style.
while you spend much of your volume on whether they can or cannot live without society.
I am not sure about how ETS would judge this kind of issue.
good luck!
