The author asserts that it is the knowledge and experiences that outsiders bring advance the study of any field, which, in my opinion, could not agree on. Any field of study could advance, insider's creation and introduction of theory and methods of other field, mainly contributed to.
Insiders are the inter-agency group to advance the development of one field, as they are so familiar to the field. An insider is always someone who major in this field in college or a graduate school for 4 or 3 years systemic study, and occupied some job of this field after graduation. Since this, he is professional in this field, understand the develop trends in this field, and know the disadvantages and advantages of method and theory used in this field of study, all which are essential for them to improve, reform, and create in this field. This is a way that nearly all subjects following in their develop progress. No one can deny that in the field of art, an artist's creation and cogitation will contribute to the advance of art field, the inspiration and creation of an architect is play an essential role to impulse the development of architecture. So, in a word, it is the insiders who mainly impulse the advance of the field he engaged.
However, for one field to advance, working behind closed doors and fancy, and having a monopoly of wisdom are neither the wise way, an insider must get a view of what happening outside, and study other method, theory and experience of other field in order to identify if there is any could be used in the field he engages in. As another way to create, introductions of outside fields will cause more effects than we could imagine. For example, the introduction of statistics which Mendel depend on to demonstrate the correctness of the theory of inheritance based on Mendel's laws has open the application of statistic using in genetics. Imagine that if Mendel or other geneticists did not turn to statistics for help of analyzing the data, we may still do not know the secret of gene and the principal they following, moreover we could not rely on the statistics to solve other problem involved in data analysis. This introduction does not also help analyze the topic, but the most important is, that it advances another field of study.
Admittedly, we could deny that outside has contributed to the development of one field of study, which may be always unintentional and occasional. Like some indraught in language, outsiders just own the spelling and pronunciation, which if the insider do not follow and spread them, they could not be words in language. So the outsider could help to advance to a field of study, but with the help of the insiders.
Finally, I concede that with so rapid development of science and technology, some cross-field come forth, which outsider and insider combined and work together to devote their discoveries to the world. Nonetheless, as a conclusion, I have to ingeminate my point, insiders help to advance the field of study with the help of outsiders, but they are the one who mainly advance the development of one field, more if they could create and even more if they could introduce knowledge and experience of other subjects.
