1. 学习历史人物在个人激励上的作用

2. 科学家对于历史的利用
3. 对于历史教育的作用

I can not concede with the author on the point that looking back for an understanding of the past provides little guidance for living in a new and complex present. In my view, through understanding the past of individuals, history facts, and great historical events would greatly benefits present people.

To begin with, through learning historical figures people can get inspired and provide some instructions and guidance, directly or indirectly, to our present lives. The real difficulties and complexities that great men and women successfully worked through teach us the philosophy of life with vivid examples. Especially to our present society which extremely emphasizes the financial gaining, quick fames, and right choices while, in comparison, lacks enough courage, endurance, and correct attitude. People can easily find themselves facing the similar dilemma as the historical figures do in the documentary and biographies and, thus, get inspired by their great personalities. For example, through learning the life time of Helen Keller, we gain the courage and endurance from her attitude towards physical impediments; through studying Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi, we learn their persistence and understand the freedom and independence of individual upon which our democratic society is built. In short, the merit of learning the historical individual, in some content, is to pass the precious qualities onto us and our descendants.

In addition, scientists could render the past facts into statistical data that help to theorize the common rules, trends, regulations with which we could predict our future daily life. We used to take our superior position in the environment for granted. Scientific researches help us to understand the severe consequences of what we used to do, such as clear-cut the rainforest, hunting animals until their extinction, and emitting toxic gases to the air. For example, environmental scientists record and investigate the volume of 'common' daily CO2 emission from our factories and automobiles which reveals strong correlation of the global warming trends with this greenhouse gas. Therefore, nowadays, with their advices and instructions, we establish restrictions, such as Kyoto Protocol, to control the emission of these gases in order to combat global warming. Moreover, sociologist, through studying the policies applied after the WWI, which emphasizes extreme financial penalty that directly attribute to the grow of hatred, and WWII, which emphasizes adequate economical aids and rebuilding, provide present political leaders with the true path toward constant world pace, that is to help, not coerce, a country. Without these efforts that appears irrelevant to our present life, we may still suffer miserable life from the revenge of our own behaviors.

Finally, history also imparts us and our descendants the national identity and the merit of our distinctive culture, therefore, this is the major reason that all nations advocate history education. Via learning from the milestone of a nation, people would understand the national values and, thus, commit loyalty to the country. For instance, the origin of Thanksgiving Day teaches us why we appreciate hard work; the Independence War teaches us how heavy independence weighs; and the Civil Rights movement and Feminist movement teaches us how precious equality is. The national identity of each mind and heart is shaped by understanding of the distinctive national cultures which make Americans so confident. Such great civilian education success is now adopted by European, Asian, and African countries. Perhaps these feats could not be achieved without the understanding of the historical events.

In sum, through the learning and understanding of the past, our personality could be inspired, our daily life could be better, and our commitment to the nation could be established. Thus, I can not assent with the author on the point that an understanding of the past provides little guidance for living in a new and complex present live.

To begin with, through learning historical figures people can get inspired and provide some instructions and guidance, (这里的主语是谁,好像逻辑上说不通)directly or indirectly, to our present lives. To begin with, through learning historical figures people can get inspired and provide some instructions and guidance, directly or indirectly, to our present lives. The real difficulties and complexities that great men and women successfully worked through teach us the philosophy of life with vivid examples. Especially to our present society which extremely emphasizes the financial gaining, quick (fames)fame不可数, and right choices while, in comparison, lacks enough courage, endurance, and correct attitude. In short, the merit of learning the historical individual, in some content, is to pass the precious qualities onto us and our descendants.(排比论证很有气势!)

In addition, scientists could (render)你确定render用在这里合适吗,虽然用法结构正确,但该词多有描绘渲染之意 the past facts into statistical data that help to theorize the common rules, trends, regulations with which we could predict our future daily life. We used to take our superior position in the environment for granted. Scientific researches help us to understand the severe consequences of what we used to do, such as clear-cut the rainforest, hunting animals until their extinction, and emitting toxic gases to the air. Without these efforts that appears irrelevant to our present life, we may still suffer miserable life from the revenge of our own behaviors.(从两方面举例,很丰满)

Finally, history also imparts us and our descendants the national identity and the merit of our distinctive culture, therefore, this is the major reason that all nations advocate history education. Via learning from the milestone of a nation, people would understand the national values and, thus, commit loyalty to the country. In sum, through the learning and understanding of the past, our personality could be inspired, our daily life could be better, and our commitment to the nation could be established.
