[i习作temp] ISSUE50 [Victors小组]7月20日作业 by H-Kevin 拍必回 [复制链接]

TOPIC: ISSUE50 - "In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."

The speaker asserts that in order to present the quality of instruction all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world and do profession relevant to the courses they teach. I agree that the outside world sometimes would bring the new ideas and some exciting opinions to their academic fields. However, I still strong disagree that the quality of instruction would be improved by this approach due to that the real aim of instruction at the college and university level is to provide the fundamental knowledge, basic technology and research approach to the students, not the various new information and found.

To begin with, the fact that the faculty would gain more inspiration and information from the world outside the academic world, we already have sufficient evidence to support it. As a faculty in science field, they need mix their knowledge with the practice which not only could prove their unauthorized guess and theory in laboratory but also could spark new idea in their research. For example, my high school biology teacher always told us that the knowledge in textbooks is usually out of date, with the publish process the plant world already have the obviously change. The best way to learn it is that entering into the nature and study with the real environment.

However, the quality of instruction at the college and university level is different than the other phrases of study, because the aim of this level is to teach the students how to learn and research topic by their selves. Due to this reason, we know that the knowledge and discovery is not important as the teaching method. If the teacher could show the students the research methods just with the common subject knowledge, I guess the students are more easily to accept it and do not need spend time to understand the knowledge itself but the method directly. After this suitable presenting of methods, the students would have the capability of study and doing research by their selves, which are the benefits for their whole life.

Moreover, the developed technology in modern time already does not need the faculty to found some new things relevant to the teaching methods by going outside the academic world. If the faculty wants to show the new approach to their students they just need to search it on internet or asking the other faculties. Comparing to the rapid and convenient methods I mentioned above, working outside is the way that waste so much times that would affect the proficiency of the faculties' normal working.  

And based on the fact that the students could learn science knowledge by the reading and discussing by their selves, the only things the faculties need to do is to teach them how to combine their message together and acquire the new information by their selves not by faculties. The existed information almost in every  field already need students to spent several years to read and study, they do not need the faculty to work in outside and provide new for them. Eventually, students, in college and university, like to use their time to discover the world by their selves and just get some assistant form their tutor to help them solve some problems in the basic methods.

Finally, in every different field, the research and instruction are also very different; we can not expect all faculty use the same method to teach the students. Like the college mathematics and physics course, the affair of faculty is to teach the students the current knowledge of these subjects, and the subjects itself also do not have the strong requirement of working outside the academic world to add the useful elements to the subject instruction. Without the sufficient instruction around the topic, the other action would be the waste to both students and faculty.

In conclusion, while the working outside the academic world would bring some benefits to the faculty, such as the new practical information and research spark, the premier aim of faculty is still to teach the students the capability of research approach and study by their selves.  All these capability could be taught by the faculty use the experience they already have. So the best way to improve the quality of instruction is to think out the suitable method on present the research method in the academic world.

采取反对的观点,从教育的本质来说,只是交给学生一些基础的知识,这些知识可以从网络或者其他途径获得,或者 方法都是已经现存的了,指导他们有团队精神,因而outside是不能提高教学质量的。总的来说,论证的逻辑是比较强的,但是有个别的例子有教授的outside联系不强。

However, I still strong disagree that the quality of instruction would be improved by this approach due to that the real aim of instruction at the college and university level is to provide the fundamental knowledge, basic technology and research approach to the students, not the various new information and found.

The best way to learn it is that entering into the nature and study with the real environment. (需要进一步回到instruction上面来,也就是讲课,这和research还是不一样的)

Without the sufficient instruction around the topic, the other action would be the waste to both students and faculty.(这一段的主题总算和题目联系的比较紧密了。。但这论证也太草率了)

In conclusion, while the working outside the academic world would bring some benefits to the faculty, such as the new practical information and research spark, the premier aim of faculty is still to teach the students the capability of research approach and study by their selves.  All these capability could be taught by the faculty use the experience they already have. So the best way to improve the quality of instruction is to think out the suitable method on present the research method in the academic world.

这篇文章总体不好,首先的一段引入了research,这和instruction不是一回事,如果你仅仅讨论研究和授课,也就罢了。可后面你也没有紧紧围绕授课的概念,还谈到了自学,认为授课不是特别重要,还否定了新知识的重要性。可工作在外面更多的是获取实际经验,而不是更新知识,最先进的科研成果基本都是在实验室中的。

论证上,段落多,字数多,导致每段的论证都不够深入,更多的是自说自话,缺少细节,比如适当的例子。没有细节的论证给人的感觉更像是党委作报告。。。。。不同学科的角度论证我觉得不错,毕竟有些学科就是从实践中发展过来的,比如管理学。有的要与时俱进,比如服装设计。

先考虑下合适的提纲吧,论证角度一开始就很散很泛,issue想写大而全,论证又充分几乎是不可能的。
