"Public figures such as actors, politicians, and athletes should expect people to be interested in their private lives. When they seek a public role, they should expect that they will lose at least some of their privacy."
In today's society, the rapid development of information technology renders us to learn about the sensational events occuring in any corner of this world more easily and quickly. Unfortunately, the private lives of public figure are often revealed in various media-newspaper, Television, radio and etc. So some people might wonder if public figures should anticipate that they would lose at least some of their privacy when they seek a public role in the society? In here, I fundamentally agree with what the author has asserts, however, In consideration of strong pressure that public opinions might brought to celebrities, the media and common people should also have an awareness in protecting celebrities' private lives properly.
In the first place, the major reason why people tend to care about public figures' privacy is that many of celebrities normally have some achievements which are hardly achieved by common people, and people who admire their success might also cast the attention to their private life. As a result, any information concerning their marriage, family, living habits, personal interests, and the like become the targets pursued by media and common people. David Beckham could be regarded as a typical example to illustrate this point. As we know, Beckham is famous for his football skills and handsome appearance, and he successfully led his team to win one and another victory, which thrilled football fans worldwide. However, his success in career also enable his private life to expose to news media frequently. All Media and correspondentsdo their utmost to obtain any private information about Beckham, and people of all ages are passionate about taking about his marriage, family, living habits and so on. Therefore, we could learn from this example that most public figures' success in career have not only brought about great fame for themselves but also introduced news media to their private life.
In the second place, any scandal or rumor, which contrasts markedly public image of celebrities, would instigate common people's curiosity greatly, and thus result in a wider broadcast of their privacy. In fact, most people would seldom be overduely interested in any public figures' personal life, but scandals could turn public attention directly to their privacy. For instance, Bill Clinton, the former American president, maintained extraordinarily high approval ratings for his job. However, after his sexual scandal was revealed, people are more eager to know anything about his emotional experience with Monica Lewinsky while relatively ignoring his contribution to American economy (his accomplishment in career)(这个例子有点问题,即使在克林顿受指控的时候,他的民意支持率依然很高,因为他对经济的贡献,而且总统的私生活重来都是新闻). Undoubtedly, without that sexual scandal, new media would hardly intrude Clinton's private life. So most scandals often serve as a catalyst which enables public figures to lose their privacy more quickly .
however, in spite of the tendency to lost at lease some of their privacy, some public figures are still able to keep their privacy from exposing to mass media. Firstly, they try to lead a simple life and avoid to violate social morality and laws, furthermore, they also know how to face attention of society. XXX, Chinese president, could serve as a good example in this respect. Since he acted as the most senior leader of this country, he has not only fulfilled his duty wonderfully, but coped freely with various media across the world. In his personal life, he insists on the principle of simplicity and strictness, and does not allow his family member to do anything that is contrary to social morality and laws. As a result, he protects his private life so successfully that most people do not know the specific name of other members of his family at all. On the contrary, if a country's leader like XXXX do not take the local morality and laws for granted, his private life would be the first target assailed by media and public people. 。。。。does not allow his family member to do anything that is contrary to social morality and laws.,难道他应该允许家人犯法?
To sum up, as a public figure, he/she should anticipate that he/she might lost some of privacy for several reason discussed above. Therefore, public figures should learn to protect their private life and avoid invasions of media. Of course, mass media should also consider these celebrities’ endurance for privacy disclosure, and reduce relative report in this respect.
