Is the study of history worthwhile only while it is relevant to people's daily lives, as the speaker maintains? In my view, I disagree with the statement. Though those who support this opinion may assert that studying history is only the matter of the historical professors because contemporary world is totally different with the past, it does provide people nowadays great benefits for its various functions.

The foremost problem with the statement is that, the speaker implies the little relation between history and people's daily lives. Most anyone, more often than not, would agree that every progress in human history is based on the precedents. If there was no Edison to invent electrical light, how could we lighten the whole world? Yet, it does not mean all of us have to study the process of devising lights. What I mean is, to learn history can help us get a better knowledge of development in certain fields. For instance, holding banks and currencies’ origination may make our daily chore to banks not boring any more. Instead, we may change this experience to be a respect on these great businessmen.

Besides, study of history can serve to provide inspiration to people. In school, the spirit of these brave figures in adversary historical books may spark the interest of several students to pursue their career in the similar fields. Then their decisions of careers surely have impact on their daily lives, thereby giving more morale and courage to face everyday difficulties. Even if, other people are not serious about choosing occupation in those fields, they also stand to gain in studying history. Through emboldening their spirit and providing motivation, history serves primarily to teach individuals dare to face everyday business, and encourage them to cope with difficulties.

Last but not least, to study history, people may avoid  repeating the similar mistakes that had happened before. A good case in point is the Open and Reform Policy in China. In Qing Dynasty,  the 'Closing Door Policy ' taken by Chinese government severely impeded the economic development in China, which left Chinese people a lesson. While in 1989, one of the greatest Chinese leaders Deng Xiaoping proposed the Open and Reform Policy to push China's economy forward. In this proposal, four special economic ozones were established, and fifteen cities are opened to the outside world, thereby encouraging the economic cooperation with developed countries, attracting investigations, absorbing financial support as well as learning newest technology and methods of manage. History proved the correctness of Open and Reform Policy. Therefore, the conclusion is clear that study of history can help us prevent similar mistakes.

To sum up, the speaker's statement is too extreme. Not only does history is relevant to people's daily lives, but also study of history undoubtedly provides us encourage and motivation to face difficulties, as well as help us avoid repeating similar mistakes.
我也与你同在,你无论往哪里去,我必保佑你,领你归回这地,总不离弃你,直到我成全了向你所应许的。
I LOVE NY~
