Metabolism is the universal principle in universe. Commonsense informs us that it is metabolism that keep our body vital, so is to ecosystem. Of course, metabolism has its fixed cycle, however, is it five years in any profession including business, politics, education, government etc as the statement said? In my opinion, that seems a complicated issue.

In the first place, as in the nature, metabolism is beneficial and necessary for human society to keep vital. Via metabolism, talented persons can ascend, much of whom spring from low hierarchy. For example, Abraham Lincoln, the greatest president in America history, sprang from poor family, used to be carpenter, mail carrier and so on. Without the mechanism that the president should step down after four years, it is impossible for him to ascend to be a president. The mechanism not only changed the destiny of Lincoln himself, but also the destiny of America, without Lincoln maybe America was rent into two countries or become a country with slavery rather than a country of freedom. What's more, the mechanism makes it impossible for a ideology to control a country forever. In history many governments were controlled by war maniacs, who bring along tremendous disasters to his country, the mechanism endows the people the chance to make them step down. Take France for example, In 60s last century, France government launched war in Vietnam, which seems a nightmare to both France and Vietnam. Fortunately, the cabinet of France stepped down in time. If Adolf Hitler had stepped down, world war 2 would not last so long. Not only in government and politics, imperecial evidence indicates that in other realm, the mechanism is beneficial and necessary too.

However, should the cycle in all profession be five years, I disagree that. In America, the president was selected every four years, and many presidents succeed in reselection. In United nation the cycle is four years two. When it comes to other realm the system is more different, For example the Board of Governor for Federal Reserve System is seven years. Alan Greenspan, served as the Board of Governor for Federal Reserve System for 18 years, he performed so wonderful that he was considered as the second most powerful individual in America, the first is the President. As for business, it often has no fixed cycle, Bill Gates serves as the leader of Microsoft for 30 years.

In fact, the long-last leaders have their advantage in many aspects which often make them irreplaceable. Long-last leaders have formed chrisma in the profess of the development of a organization, which can unite the members to overcome difficulties. Examples supporting that is abundant, we need look no further than America. In the Great Recession, President Franklin D Roosevelt was selected as the president, then rely on his strong conviction and raw intelligence, President Roosevelt lead America out of recession. President Roosevelt achieve the belief of American people, so in the World War 2, he was selected as the president of America the forth time and lead America beat Nazi. Besides, Long-last leaders collect rich experience which is beneficial to the organization especially in business, education. For example, as for business, the long-last leader has form the ability to hold the change of market and keep pace with the advance front of the technique which help them to keep his enterprise vital.

To sum up, the mechanism which change leaders is beneficial and necessary in almost any professions, however, the cycle is different.
