TOPIC: ISSUE147 - "Tradition and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them."
WORDS: 474              DATE: 2007-7-23

The speaker asserts that tradition and modernization are not compatible and that one must choose one between them. I concede that modernization has changed our everyday life. On the other hand, in my point of view, there are still many traditional costomes in modern life. Moreover, in some cases, tradition and modernization are compatible.

Admittedly, our life has changed a lot due to modernization. To illustrate this point of view, we need look no further than our daily life. Nowadays we have light bulbs in our houses for lighting. The candles are seldom used to kindle our rooms. In winter, warmers now warm our houses and we no longer sit at the side of fireplaces. Cars and trains are used for traffic by replacing the carriages and therefore we can travel farther and see more places. In short, our daily life has been changed by modern technology.

Although modernization exerts changed our everyday life a great deal, we still have many traditional customes in modern life. It is not difficult to discover that traditional habbits still exist in our quotidian life. For instance, the worldwide computer connection offers us more convenient and express way, email to communicate with the person far away from us. Yet, many people write letters to their parents, lovers and friends because looking at the handwriting of the person, people could retrieve a familiar feeling and feel that the person was just in front of them. But email is unable to provide such experience. For another example, lovers prefer to have dinner with candlelight though there are brighter light bulbs since the candle light is not too bright and can provide a romantic feeling. Therefore, traditional habits remain in our life..

However, in some cases, tradition and modernization can be compatible, since modern things always come from the traditional stuffs. For example, the language, modern Chinese is developed from the old Chinese. Although there are many differences between the two, most of the words have the same meanings in both languages and many grammar rules are similar. Knowing the old one, one can understand the modern Chinese easily and vise versa. Consider another example, modern musicians often seek inspiration from the traditional music and sometime even directly use some pieces of the old music in their products. Moreover, many past instruments are used in modern performance, for example traditional flutes, drums and so forth to make special tone. Modern languages and music contain traditional ingredients and thus the modern and traditional factors can be compatible in such cases.

In sum, in most cases, tradition and modernization are not compatible. People replace traditional tools with modern equipment in quotidian life, yet in some cases people keep the traditional habits for special experiences that the modern way cannot offer. In addition, tradition and modernization are able to exist in the same stuff.

Thespeaker asserts that tradition and modernization are not compatible andthat one must choose one between them.(可以稍微变化一下) I concede that modernization haschanged our everyday life. On the other hand, in my point of view, there are still many traditional costomes in modern life. (这里观点有一点跑,最好加一句他们共存于现在的社会,然后接下一句,they are compatible就好了)Moreover, in some cases, tradition and modernization are compatible.

Admittedly, our life has changed a lot due to modernization. To illustrate thispoint of view, we need look no further than our daily life. Nowadayswe have light bulbs in our houses for lighting. The candles are seldomused to kindle our rooms. In winter, warmers now warm our houses and weno longer sit at the side of fireplaces. Cars and trains are used fortraffic by replacing the carriages and therefore we can travel farther and see more places. In short, our daily life has been changed by modern technology.
这一点比较好写,可以多写几个例子来丰富这一段,另外这几个例子之间的关系稍微有点散。

Although modernization exerts changed our everyday life a great deal, (这句话有点问题)we still have many traditional customes in modern life. It is not difficult to discover that traditional habbits still exist in our quotidian life. For instance, the worldwide computer connection offersus more convenient and express way, email to communicate with theperson far away from us.(后面这半句是前面的例子,最好不要写成并列) Yet, many people write letters to theirparents, lovers and friends because looking at the handwriting of theperson, people could retrieve a familiar feeling and feel that theperson was just in front of them. But email is unable to provide suchexperience. For another example, lovers prefer to have dinner withcandlelight though there are brighter light bulbs since the candlelight is not too bright and can provide a romantic feeling. Therefore, traditional habits remain in our life..
后面的那个例子不错,最好写完了例子之后,或者写之前再论述一两句就可以了

However,in some cases, tradition and modernization can be compatible,(那个转折词用得不太恰当,因为前面的段落并没有论述两者不相容) sincemodern things always come from the traditional stuffs(这句话表达的不太好). For example, thelanguage, modern Chinese is developed from the old Chinese. Althoughthere are many differences between the two, most of the words have thesame meanings in both languages and many grammar rules are similar.Knowing the old one, one can understand the modern Chinese easily andvise versa. Consider another example, modern musicians often seekinspiration from the traditional music and sometime even directly usesome pieces of the old music in their products. Moreover, many pastinstruments are used in modern performance, for example traditionalflutes, drums and so forth to make special tone. Modern languages andmusic contain traditional ingredients and thus the modern andtraditional factors can be compatible in such cases.

Insum, in most cases, tradition and modernization are not compatible.(文章中很难看出有论述了两者不相容的观点)People replace traditional tools with modern equipment in quotidianlife, yet in some cases people keep the traditional habits for specialexperiences that the modern way cannot offer. In addition, traditionand modernization are able to exist in the same stuff.
开头和结尾的论点有些不对应。

The speaker asserts that tradition and modernization are not compatible and that one must choose one between them. I concede that modernization has changed our everyday life. On the other hand, in my point of view, there are still many traditional costomes in modern life. Moreover, in some cases, tradition and modernization are compatible.(开头简练,看来大家都觉得简练的开头比较好,学习学习)

In short, our daily life has been changed by modern technology.(这段比较容易举例)

Although modernization exerts changed our everyday life a great deal, we still have many traditional customes in modern life. It is not difficult to discover that traditional habbits still exist in our quotidian life(daily life表达不好吗?). For instance, the worldwide computer connection offers us more convenient and express way, email to communicate with the person far away from us.(^_^,把前天的例子用上拉) Yet, many people write letters to their parents, lovers and friends because looking at the handwriting of the person, people could retrieve a familiar feeling and feel that the person was just in front of them.(说得好啊,我跟我GF高中就是用书信联系哈:) But email is unable to provide such experience. For another example, lovers prefer to have dinner with candlelight though there are brighter light bulbs since the candle light is not too bright and can provide a romantic feeling. Therefore, traditional habits remain in our life..

However(为什么要转折????), in some cases, tradition and modernization can be compatible, since modern things always come from the traditional stuffs.

In sum, in most cases, tradition and modernization are not compatible(为了照应这句话,前面最好某处提一个not compatible的例子). People replace traditional tools with modern equipment in quotidian life, yet in some cases people keep the traditional habits for special experiences that the modern way cannot offer. In addition, tradition and modernization are able to exist in the same stuff.
