TOPIC: ISSUE5 - "A nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic courses to offer."
WORDS: 495          TIME: 00:45:00          DATE: 2007-7-27 15:05:13

This issue focuses on which should be taught in school, and who should determine the curriculum. The author resorts to national curriculum, rather than local curriculum. However, in my opinion, national curriculum should be taught, while different parts of the nation have rights to offer some local courses suit for their situation.

As all we know, education is a key topic of this era. It is a method cultivating children with knowledge and adapt them to the society. For children's sake, an education should contain all common knowledge involved in life, which varies in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and so forth. Though the study of science knowledge, the children could know their life better, they may know why ice become water, how to put out a fire and so on. All these commonsense should be included in every curriculum no matter who determine. Nonetheless, if this curriculum is determined by a national organization, it could have some benefits. First, as university is a national high education organization, it enrolls from all over the country. If all parts of the nation have their own curriculum, the standard for enrolling is hard to establish. Universities have to set down their own rules to identify students' ability, which is a waste to some extent. And, universities may compete in good source of students, which is harmful to their academic functions. Secondly, national curriculum has benefits on teachers' cultivation, for they could save time and money, and more convenient for them to communicate. Thirdly, which is the most important, education is an obligation of a country, they have more time more people to survey, to explore, to research what suit for the students most. Aside from this science knowledge, the education of one country always tries to teach the people their value through formal education. A citizen must know his/her country's history, culture, and art, so as to patriotically to the country and could devote himself/herself to this country. All these knowledge should be determined by nation, as they know more about the situation all over the country, not to emphasizing any part.

However, some local governments have the rights and obligation to offer some courses for their citizens, in order to make them more suits for life in the part. For example, a city nearby sea should choose swimming as a compulsory course for their students, thus they could enjoy themselves more freely and save their lives in the sea. Additionally, it is very essential for a local course to teach some important culture of their own, such as their local language, their custom, especially in minority areas. This curriculum may help them save and hand their culture down.

So, as a conclusion, the same national curriculum do not mean local parts lose their feature and freedom, this need is an more economical, and more proper for a nation, for all the country's students. And, local parts also could offer curriculum suitable to their students. Both these could benefits a child's growth.

As all we know, education is a key topic of this era. It is a method cultivating children with knowledge and adapt them to the society. For children's sake, an education should contain all common (general/basic) common重在平凡之意knowledge involved in life, which varies in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and so forth. Though the study of science knowledge, the children could know their life better, they may know why ice become water, how to put out a fire and so on. All these commonsense should be included in every curriculum no matter who determine. Nonetheless, if this curriculum is determined by a national organization, it could have some benefits. First Firstly与后面照应, as university is a national high education organization, it enrolls from all over the country. This curriculum may help them save (preserve)and hand their culture down.例子生动有力!偶喜欢,不过这段有些单薄,如果观点偏向平衡的话,这段应该加强些

So, as a conclusion, the same national curriculum do not mean local parts lose their feature and freedom, this need is an more economical, and more proper for a nation, for all the country's students. And, local parts also could offer curriculum suitable to their students. Both these could benefits a child's growth.
