Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Most experiences in our lives that seemed difficult at the time become valuable lessons for the future. Use reasons and specific examples to support our answer.

I agree with the contention that experiences in tough time may be very precious for us. All we gain during the experience usually turn out to wealth in our lives.

Firstly, tough experiences develop our willingness and persistence. There is a famous saying that “no pain, no gain”, which means we cannot get successful without any effort. Willingness and persistence is good quality on the way to success. Thomas Edison is a good example. Before he became a famous inventor, he had to support his family by selling newspapers, or repairing clocks. Besides, Einstein suffered from severe unemployment but he also brought forth the theory of relativity. The tough experiences did not defeat them but gave them more strength to struggle for success. In think, it is the persistence they gained during the tough time that made them successful.

Secondly, experiences in our lives that seemed difficult let us know diligence is indispensable for success. No one is born gifted. How diligent a person is usually determines whether he or she can success. When I was a college student, I was very lazy and did not like studying. However, when I was preparing for the entrance examination for postgraduate study, I realized my fault. Then I got up before 7 o’clock every day to study. Eventually, I passed the exam. It was the experiences that taught me to be diligent. I am grateful.

Moreover, difficult experience may help us realize demerits or shortcomings of ourselves. Self-consciousness seldom appears when we enjoy happiness or entertainment, but when we suffer from failure or sadness. While we confront difficulties, the situations may force us to think deeply about ourselves, that is, what we are right and what we are wrong. The willingness of overcoming the obstacles will largely require us to correct our demerits. So this experience is a good lesson for us.
