TOPIC: ISSUE48 - "The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, but by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten."
WORDS: 560          TIME: 00:45:00          DATE: 2007-7-29

The speaker asserts that the most important events and trends in history were made by groups of people whose identities have been forgotten rather than by the famous individuals and that the study of history should not emphasize on individuals so much. In my observation, both the key individuals and the group of people who are not big names contribute to the historical events and trends. In addition, emphasizing on individuals while studying history is reasonable since study of the key figures in history can benefit us a lot.

On the one hand, the masses that have not left their name in history offer indispensable power to the progress of our history. Since only the masses have the huge power to complete the great works or to make changes to society. For example, Suez Canal, the longest canal in the world, is completed by the efforts of thousands of common people whose names we do not remember and are unable to know now. It is only the masses that can accomplish such great project. There is so much earth to dig and carry that a few persons need hundreds of years to complete this work no matter how talented they are. Moreover, to throw down the ruling of a monarch, to fight against the army from foreign countries and defend the homeland, and even to grow sufficient crops to feed the country are required the masses' power which cannot be replace by any other. In short, the power of the masses is so strong that they play a significant role in history.

On the other hand, it is the famous few who incite and lead the masses to make progress in history. The key figures in history were always tanlented and wise individuals and with their impetus and leadership can the masses work efficiently to attain an object. Take the Great Revolution in France as an example, the common people picked up arms to fight against the king for their freedom under the guidance of several leaders. It is those few leaders that taught the people that all persons are born equally and should enjoy freedom. Therefore, they were aroused to fight with violation. Moreover, it is the famous leaders who lead those people to fight against the army of the king so that they could beat the army heavily. Thus, the key figures are pivotal in the historical events.

Turn to the speaker's next claim that study of history places undue emphasis on individuals. In my opinion, the key individuals can offer us examples with worthy spirit and learning from them benefits us very much. Consider Magellan, the famous explorer, he made the first global travel in the oceans. Inspired by his great courage and determination, our students may hope to attain great achievements such as exploring the outer space, inventing gene medicine to cure diseases and so forth. Furthermore, through study of the revolutionary leaders, students can learn their firm faith and loyalty to their enterprise and their tough minds. In short, emphasizing on individuals in the study of history is worthy since the learning from the key figures brings about much benefit to us.

In sum, both the famous few and the masses are dispensable in the historical events. In addition, learning from key individuals in history can inspire us and it is worthy to emphasize on individuals while studying history.

The speaker asserts that the most important events and trends in history were made by groups of people whose identities have been forgotten rather than by the famous individuals and that the study of history should not emphasize on individuals so much(开头这句复述罗嗦了,实在不行可以分两句说.).

Since only the masses have the huge power to complete the great works or to make changes to society(为什么only the messes可以?). Moreover, to throw down the ruling of a monarch, to fight against the army from foreign countries and defend the homeland, and even to grow sufficient crops to feed the country are required(required) the masses' power which cannot be replace by any other. In short, the power of the masses is so strong that they play a significant role in history.

On the other hand, it is the famous few who incite and lead the masses to make progress in history. The key figures in history were always tanlented and wise individuals and with their impetus and leadership can the masses work efficiently to attain an object. It is those few leaders that taught the people that all persons are born equally and should enjoy freedom. Therefore, they were aroused to fight with violation. Moreover, it is the famous leaders who lead those people to fight against the army of the king so that they could beat the army heavily(意思说重复了).

Furthermore, through study of the revolutionary leaders, students can learn their firm faith and loyalty to their enterprise and their tough minds. In short, emphasizing on individuals in the study of history is worthy since the learning from the key figures brings about much benefit to us.(审题严谨)

In sum, both the famous few and the masses are dispensable in the historical events. In addition, learning from key individuals in history can inspire us and it is worthy to emphasize on individuals while studying history.(结尾简洁全面)

终于可以上网了...好多要改了阿...

开头不错

On the one hand, the masses that have not left their name in history offer indispensablepower to the progress of our history. Moreover, to throw down the ruling of amonarch, to fight against the army from foreign countries and defendthe homeland, and even to grow sufficient crops to feed the countryare required the masses' power which cannot be replace by any other. Inshort, the power of the masses is so strong that they play asignificant role in history.
例子和论证都不错。

On the other hand, itis the famous few who incite and lead the masses to make progress inhistory. The key figures in history were always tanlented(talented)and wise individuals and with their impetus and leadership can themasses work efficiently to attain an object(goal). Take the Great Revolutionin France as an example, the common people picked up arms to fightagainst the king for their freedom under the guidance of severalleaders. It is those few leaders that taught the people that allpersons are born equally and should enjoy freedom. Therefore, they werearoused to fight with violation. Moreover, it is the famous leaders wholead those people to fight against the army of the king so that theycould beat the army heavily. Thus, the key figures are pivotal in thehistorical events.
不错,那个example可以多论证一点。
最好这里不要用on the one hand, on the other hand,这样比较突然,而且on the one hand, on the other hand,是对同一个方面的描述,应该有一个归纳句的。这里
on the one hand, on the other hand的内容不太是对于同一方面的描述。
Turn to the speaker'snext claim that study of history places undue emphasis on individuals. In my opinion, the key individuals can offer us examples with worthyspirit and learning from them benefits us very much. Consider Magellan, the famous explorer, he made the first global travel in the oceans.Inspired by his great courage and determination, our students may hopeto attain great achievements such as exploring the outer space, inventing gene medicine to cure diseases and so forth.(例子和后面的推论恰当) Furthermore, through study of the revolutionary leaders, students can learn theirfirm faith and loyalty to their enterprise and their tough minds. Inshort, emphasizing on individuals in the study of history is worthysince the learning from the key figures brings about much benefit to us.

In sum, both thefamous few and the masses are dispensable in the historical events. Inaddition, learning from key individuals in history can inspire us andit is worthy to emphasize on individuals while studying history.
全文的结构都很不错,例子也不错,但是我感觉有些论证比较单薄,不知道是不是我自己写的n多的原因。现在感觉自己写的越来越多了,希望大家帮我把废话给挑出来...
