Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a

In the author's view, he concedes that the extent of children's socialization determines the
destiny of society and we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about
a better society. As soon as I am concerned, children's socialization is only one of the crucial
factors which have an essential influence on the development of society. Our education towards
children has made a lot of progress , however, there still exist many trouble problems.
To begin with, the destiny of society can be attributable to many reasons while the children's
socialization only belongs to it. Surly, the higher the extent of children's socialization, the
better the children's function of building up society acts. High Socialization ensures that
children's ability learned from schools can be used most effectively to various fields of the
society. Besides, there are some other factors be taken into account. Firstly, the value system
of the whole society exert a great influence on the society , in which a value that the industry
and honesty play an high role is beneficial to the destiny of the society. Secondly, the leadership
of the government also has a significant effect on the society. Thirdly, the educational level of
the whole populace is another important aspect which is even decisive sometimes .So, we must advance
lots of aspects rather that only one of them in order to render our society more healthy and prosperous.
Then, we need a thorough analysis of our education towards children recently. On one side, we really
achieve some exciting goals which is helpful to our children's growth. The majority of children nowadays
show a impressive confidence in face of many challenges .They have endless wonderful new ideas and are
always keen on creating some exotic things. Furthermore, many old conventional ideas left behind them.
They show more respect for their elder, especially for women. They insist the gender equality between
males and females. They enjoy playing with children with various races without any racialism . All the
cases mentioned above inform us the effectiveness and merits of our education which we should need keep
up in the long run. Our free, democratic , equal society is the beneficiary of those.
On the other hand, we must also admit and face many other serious problems frankly. Most of our children
grow up with no other sisters or brothers who gain the whole care and love from their parents which gives
rise to some issues such as the lack of the idea of teamwork and good communicative ability , Both of which
is the two most important making in front of the complex and competitive society .Many children indicate
their selfishness by their talks and behaviors which will do a big harm to build the ideal society packed
with friendliness ,love and respect for others. Thus, there are still a lot of things to handle with about
our education towards children.
To sum up, I draw the conclusion that the destiny of society is not only determined by children's socialization
and the education towards children is very crucial to the development of the society with many good merits
which we should hold on and other shortcomings which we should solve gradually.







TOPIC: ARGUMENT140 - The following appeared in a report of the Committee
on Faculty Promotions and Salaries at Elm City University.
"During her seventeen years as a professor of botany, Professor Thomas has
proved herself to be well worth her annual salary of $50,000. Her classes are among the largest at the university, demonstrating her popularity among students.
Moreover, the money she has brought to the university in research grants has exceeded her salary in each of the last two years. Therefore, in consideration
of Professor Thomas' demonstrated teaching and research abilities, we recommend that she receive a $10,000 raise and a promotion to Department Chairperson
; without such a raise and promotion, we fear that Professor Thomas will leave Elm City University for another college."

In the author's argument, he asserts that the committee on Faculty Promotions and Salaries
at Elm City University should increase Professor Thomas's salary to $10,000 and give her a
promotion to Department Chairperson .To support his claim, the arguer point out two facts
that the professor's class has the most students in the university and the grants she bring
to the university has exceeded her salary in each of the last two years. Based on the unfounded
assumption and poorly supported evidence ,I am specious about the author's recommendation which
suffers from several flaws.
To begin with, the author comes to his recommendation relied on the assumption that without
a raise and promotion for Professor Thomas, she will leave Elm City University for another college.
However, the assumption is totally unfounded since the author does not give any information about
the Thomas'  will to leave for the college. It is entirely possible that Professor Thomas is very contented
with her now salary and status so that she never has the inclination to leave Elm City University . The fact
mentioned above ,if true, will definitely weaken the foundation of the author's recommendation. So ,it is
hard for me to concede that the author's assumption is untenable.

Secondly, it is obvious that the author makes a fallacy of false cause. The author's proposal is
attributable to Professor Thomas's demonstrated teaching and research abilities. The former is
verified seemingly by the fact that her class maintains the biggest number of students in the
college which does not equally mean her excellent teaching ability. There is a chance that the
course her teach is indispensable to most students, or here is a lack of teachers who can teach
the same courses. The later, similarly, does not convince me Professor Thomas wonderful research
ability since there is no detailed information about other professor's grants brought by them.
Maybe, her grant is one of the least ones for all the professors. Without ruling out these possibilities
cited above, I can not be convinced by the questionable evidence that the author's conclusion is plausible.

Thirdly, the author makes a fallacy of false analogy between the two occupations-a Professor and
a Department Chairperson. The two jobs have many different demands for people. The Department
Chairperson should have the ability to handle with a lot of tackles ,have more tolerance and patient
with others and can communicate effectively with other Professors. It is likely that Professor Thomas
does not have the qualified abilities mentioned above. So, the college would need a skilled and excellent
professor rather than a poor Department Chairmen. Thus, the false analogy undermine the author’s claims
strongly so that I can not be easily bewildered .

To sum up, the author's recommendation is entirely unpersuasive. In order to make his claim more
cogent, he should supply more details about the real research and teaching levels of Professor Thomas ,
the grants of other professor bring in and whether Professor Thomas is capable of the job of the
Department Chairperson.
