ISSUE147 - "Tradition and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them."
传统和现代化是水火不容的。人们必须二者选一。
The speaker claims that one must choose between tradition and modernization, for the reason that they are incompatible with each other. Although in this rapidly developing society, there are many traditions changed, I hold the opinion that tradition and modernization are compatible most of the time as the following discussions.

First of all, we are easily to find out that plenty thoughts, value systems, traditional customers and religions are passed down to contemporary from one generation to another generation. And most of the impacts they posed on modern society  are still profound and meaningful. For instance, at Christmas Eve, people never forget to put gifts to their families in socks, even though most people have lived in modern houses where no chimney exists; in Saint Valentines' Day, men always send roses to their lovers; similarly, at the traditional Spring Festival the whole family will reunite and at the Mid-Autumn Day, every Chinese eat the moon-cake. Another representative example the moral area, honesty, integrity, respect to old people and give a hand to others are all considered as virtues according to our tradition. In today's society, the situation around us are changing all the time and much faster than ever before, people become more concerned about their interests and profits. But all the virtues above are still considered as good elements today and are placed on great emphasis.  Therefore, our modern society is permeated with tradition in a myriad of respects.

Admittedly, there are some cases that tradition and modernization are incompatible. Since much tradition is fatuous, it must be disdained. For instance, one hundred years ago, women are forbidden to go to school and work in most countries.  But, in today’s society women have the equal right as men. Another example is that, in the Qing dynasty of China, when people sickened, most of them resort to the hex. But today, most of the patient would go to hospital. So the modernization reformed the obsolete tradition, and meanwhile consummated our society.

In conclusion ,according to what  I claims above, I insist that we should make tradition and modernization coexist in a balanced way, although something antiquated in tradition meaningless even harmful to the improvement of contemporary society. The sensible attitude to tradition is that make use of its advantage while give up the draff.

实用主义是我们现在主要的追求，一切的力量和才智都必须为其服务。任何并非显著实用的东西在当今世界几乎是没有价值的。
1．不可否认，这社会变的越来越功利，从教育的角度看，人们进大学就是为了将来找个好工作，所以与职业紧密相连的学科计算机，经济学，广告，近几年越来越壮大，但是对于人类文化精髓的学习，却逐渐被人们忽视，比如哲学，历史，因为人们觉得这种学习不能给他们带来物质上面的满足。这样一味追求功利的后果很严重，下一代的思想越来越肤浅，他们不再喜欢看书，不再喜欢研究，他们唯一关心的就是赚钱。
2．商业领域也是这样，公司总是想着如何的扩大自己公司的利润，不愿意贡献一部分利润回报社会，不愿意捐钱保护已经非常糟糕的环境，不愿意多给自己员工一分钟的休息，因为这些做法都是没有意义的，不能帮助他们实现他们的实用目标。
3．但是一味追求实用的行动，是非常危险的，人们很容易迷失自己，永远不知道知足，享受不到生活的乐趣，总是被各种各样不必要的烦心事所累。现在社会上各种心理疾病，人们感觉压力大，都是一位追求功利产生的结果。举例来说，有人为了有车，有房，有各种各样的财产，但是他必须面对似乎没有尽头的车子保险 mortgage ，各种Bills ，每个月都必须处理这些东西。原以为有了这些东西就有了自己幸福快乐的生活，但是实际上这样东西毁了自己无忧无虑的生活。
ISSUE161 - "In this age of intensive media coverage, it is no longer possible for a society to regard any woman or man as a hero. The reputation of anyone who is subjected to media scrutiny will eventually be diminished."
在这个媒体铺天盖地的年代，人们已经不可能把任何人看作英雄了。任何人在媒体的“审视”下最终都会名声扫地。
1、不可否认，媒体的普及和宣传对英雄人物的产生的确起到了负面的影响。
2、但是媒体并没有阻碍甚至抹杀英雄的存在，在当代也有很多的英雄。首先，在当今技术飞速发展的时代，人们比过去更渴望英雄，我们的经验告诉我们，媒体时代不光没有消灭英雄，而且更多的英雄层出不穷。
3、其次，尽管现代的媒体会努力挖掘名人的隐私，让人们觉得名人和普通人没有什么两样，但是这从一定意义上让现在应穷在人们眼中显得更真实，使得人们更相信英雄的存在。
ISSUE94 - "Universities should require every student to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study because acquiring knowledge of various academic disciplines is the best way to become truly educated."
大学应该要求每一个学生选修自己专业外的大量课程，因为获得各类学科的知识是获得真正教育的最好途径。
1．对学好本学科有帮助，因为知识在逻辑体系上是互通的，各个学科之间的相互交织。
2．在全球化进程的今天，只学习某个专业内的知识已经不能满足需要了。首先，广泛的学习各种知识能够拓宽视野。其次，可以让学生发现她真正感兴趣的研究方向。
3．过分强调学习其他学科的重要性可能会导致学生忽视主要知识的学习。
ISSUE153 - "Students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively."
学生应该带着一定的怀疑态度对待所学的任何东西。他们应该对教给他们的东西应该进行质疑，而不是被动地接受。
1．怀疑精神可以更好的吸收学校里的东西。（因为被动接受的东西永远不会学生重视。从心理上讲，一个人真正珍惜的东西是自己辛苦努力得到的。同样某个理论，你自己怀疑它，然后做实验证实它，跟老师直接告诉你，是不一样的体会。而且怀疑精神可以提高学生学会自己分析判断事物的能力。如果只是背诵，复述老师的话，学生跟机器没有区别。通过怀疑，学会用自己的角度看待事物，形成自己的一套见解，而不是人云亦云。我们的教育目的也是鼓励这样的人）         
2．怀疑精神有助于重大的科学进步和发现。（怀疑可以找出被当作真理的错误。如果每个人都把学术的理论，当作宗教的信条的话，那么社会永远不会进步。Galileo 勇敢的质疑 Aristotle 在比萨斜塔上（THE leaning  tower of pisa） the velocity is the same .科学发展史上很多人都是这个样子）
3．学生不应该过度的怀疑，会有副作用的。（不能因为怀疑，而没有理由的拒绝传统。很多学生怀疑过头，却没有自己的见解。怀疑也不能变成否认前人做出的贡献。牛顿 Newton ，If I have been able to see further, it was only because I stood on the shoulders of giants。正因为有前人工作的铺垫，才使他的怀疑，他的假说有意义。）
总的来说，学生应该有适度的怀疑精神，这从根本上说是符合教育的目的。


思路越来越狭窄了，字也越写越少了，怎么办啊？？
