It is true that many species are(have) become extinct as a result of natural process. But in my point of view, I don’t agree that taking extraordinary effort to protect species is not justified. This issue should be parted to two independent aspects to discuss. The one is species endangered by natural processes; another is endangered species which is(are) treated by anthropogenic processes.
Firstly, I agree with author that for those species extinguished by natural processes, we human should not make “extraordinary” effort to protect them. Because according to Darwinian argument that these species are extinguished as result of “natural selection”, in other words, the extinction of these species is due to their poor adaptability. For instance, the ancient animal, like dinosaur, their extinction is unrelated to human, and even if we could protect them, the protection is meaningless, because they deserve to extinguish. Under this condition, the notion that human not to protect them is reasonable, because we just obey the natural selection theory.
However, should human beings not to protect these species at all? As I see it, if a species has some great value to human beings, we should protect them. For example, some endangered species have important gene simple or medical value, we should protect them, though the species are extinguished due to their weaker adaptability. In addition to these species which has great value, the endangered species which we human favor are also worth to protect. For instance, the panda, although it is endangered by natural process, human still tend to save them, just because human like them. In short, human inclined to save lovely and clever animals. Nevertheless, it is not worth spending numerous money and resource to save these “should be” extinguished species. Human should weigh our own ability against the importance of these species to decide how great effort to make.
Nonetheless, there still lots of species are endangered not by the natural processes but due to human behaviors. We human should save these species, no matter how much money and resource to use. We all know that human beings damage the environment all the time by behaviors such as clear-cutting of forest and polluting of lakes and streams. These anthropogenic events would destroy some species habitat, and might also kill these species. In my point of view, all the species in the earth are together to keep an ecological balance, any unnatural extinction of a species would upset the balance, and these will at last lead to the extinction of human own. Under this circumstance, we human have responsible(responsibility) and be even necessary to save these species; actually, the protection of these species amount to self-preservation of human ourselves. Consequently, this protection is most important and has highest priority to take action.
To sum up, for the species endangered by natural processes, we human should take effort to protect them, but take extraordinary effort is meaningless, and the limitation of the effort should be based on the important(importance) of these species and the ability of our own. But for the endangered species which is treated by anthropogenic events, we human should try to spare no effort to protect them, because this is an indispensable obligation and a self-protection.
思路很清楚,表述也很流畅,基本上没挑出什么错误。再接再厉! |
