This assertion claims that education emphasizes too much role model, which people should learn to think and act independently and thus make the choices that are best for them. I agree with the author but I still recommend that learn experience from others still play an essential role in their choices.

The first step of education is imitation, that learn by experience of posterity is inevitable in the processes of perceive the world and make choices independently. Role model effects as the first step of education in studying. Take general education for example, we study uniform courses such as mathematic, literature, art, extraordinarily language. We begin our first word through listen to sound-ambience around us. If a Chinese baby born in American, the first of his words may be mammy, not mama in Chinese, the learning can not been taught from gene but from imitation of the surrounding him. Role models important to the education so copy others id the essential first step.

The individual character require different choice basis on individual background. There are several reasons why we need individual decision. Firstly, it is the requirement pace with the social progress, which need specialist for specific jobs. Such as we need doctors to protect our health, scientist invents modern machine, societies guide the direction of social progress, teachers cultivate the new generation. The different social roles need their different views. Secondly, individual education and character make their individual decisions. Such as a pessimist and another optimist may have different attitudes in one thing. Thirdly, the development of one field needs the creation from other field such as bio-physiology, ploy-chemistry, which combine with different subjects.  

Only copy other's thinking is unsuitable for the advance of academic and society, such as labialization in literature and articles, to steal and pass off the idea or words of another as one’s own, use another’s production without crediting the source. It is a kind of crime to copy other’s opinion and hurt the academic ambience, which need just competition protest ethic level of researching.

In sum, copy other is the first step but not the most necessary factor for decision making. Creative thinking can make your combine with the merit of past and aspire impulse in progress. So we agree with the assertion that we should learn to think independently.
