The speaker asserts that the individuals' greatness is able to be(这个表达在这里不好吧,一般主语是人) decided only by future generations, not by their contemporaries. While I concede that whether the individuals are great or not can be evaluated by the future generations, their temporaries are also able to recognize their greatness.
Admittedly, the greatness of individuals can be decided by future generations since the future generations can evaluate them from a historical perspective. The contribution of an individual always need some time to be recognized by the public. For example, in the realm of science, Einstein's theory of relativity is so abstruse that no more than ten persons understood it at that time over the world and the public were unable to know what contribution Einstein had done or what benefits theory of relativity can bring to them. Thus Einstein was hardly accepted by the public, letting alone considered as great. Yet, when Einstein's theory is gradually substantiated by some experiments and can be used to explain some physical phenomena successfully, people know Einstein's contribution to physics and consider him the greatest scientist in 20th century. Consider the realm of arts, Vincent van Gogh the famous painter of impression, who was not recognized by his temporaries, had sold only one painting when he was alive. But his talent was recognized as great painter of impression later and two of his paintings were sold for over 50 million dollars, one of which is the most expensive art work so far. In short, the greatness of individuals can always recognized by those who live after them as their contributions are gradually known by the public.(刚看了一个坛子上的牛人对ISSUE的见解,重要的一点是要在举完例子之后详细的逻辑说理,我觉得我们有同样的问题,就是例子可以举的出,但说完例子就一句话结尾草草了事了,要向8686学习呀)
However, in some cases individuals' greatness can be recognized soon and their temporaries considered them as great. For example, the first president of America, George Washington led the Americans to fight against the English Army and gained freedom. When the United States of America was founded, the Americans requested him to be the president since they consider him is a great leader. Washington's contribution was so easy to see that he was considered as great in her life year. Take Mark Twain as another example, the famous American writer became a bestseller author when he was alive since he can be understood and appreciated soon through his books. Therefore, individuals also can be considered as great by their contemporaries when their contributions are conspicuous. (问题同上段)
In sum, who decide the individuals' greatness depends on their contribution. If their contribution is conspicuous, the greatness of individuals can be decided by their contemporaries. Otherwise, their greatness are able to be decided by the future generations.
这篇感觉内容不够充实,核心两段都是摆出例子就完了,论证太少,今天的ISSUE可以试着多论证一下. |
