TOPIC: ARGUMENT167 - A folk remedy* for insomnia, the scent in lavender flowers, has now been proved effective. In a recent study, 30 volunteers with chronic insomnia slept each night for three weeks on lavender-scented pillows in a controlled room where their sleep was monitored. During the first week, volunteers continued to take their usual sleeping medication. They slept soundly but wakened feeling tired. During the second week, the volunteers discontinued their medication. As a result, they slept less soundly than the previous week and felt even more tired. During the third week, the volunteers slept longer and more soundly than in the previous two weeks. This shows that over a short period of time lavender cures insomnia.
*A folk remedy is usually a plant-based form of treatment common to traditional forms of medicine, ones that developed before the advent of modern medical services and technology.

The arguer claims that the lavender has effective to insomnia, by the research on 30 volunteers in 3 weeks. I want to point out that 3 weeks is such a short time to cure a chronic ill, which combine many other factors; moreover, it is not the just evidence.
For the first card, as I have said, 3 weeks is just a short time for cure insomnia. As insomnia formed is not in 3 weeks. Insomnia combines many factors, such as pressure, ill, too much dreams etc. To treat all of this is not a short time can solve. The result seems that lavender is helpful, but the volunteers know what they are here for, they may give their own opinion follow the study's minds, not follow their true situations. The result may not concern with lavender.
More, arguer claims that lavender is helpful at last, but the first week, volunteers take sleeping medication as usual, but when they wake up they feel tired; the second week, they don't take sleep medicine, but hard to sleep and wake up more tired; the third week, they sleep long, but where is the effective? More tired or other? We do not know. As rules going, when we are tired, we can sleep well, like fever, we may have different degree in different time, morning is higher than afternoon, after two weeks, volunteers may very tired, they can sleep well in third week without any sleep medicine.
Last but not the least, can not fast in sleep is also situation for insomnia. But it is not referring that in the argument. This is very important, but in the argument we just see volunteers' not wholly sleep situation or result. This research is not contact with other factors on insomnia. Follow the study, can we conclude that lavender is just have effective in sleeping process?
The arguer does not based on the authority research, ignore some important research factors, and give a illegibility conclusion. That is all useless to prove his view is right. From above, you can find that whether lavender flowers effective useful for chronic insomnia is still on researching.
