Is choice is an illusion because society controls our lives, as the speaker asserts? I tend to disagree. While I concede that society put many constraints on individual lives, a prosperous society, at the same time, offers more choice to people who belong to it, and choice is absolutely not an illusion.

Admittedly, our lives are often controlled and restrained by society and nation we live in. The most important constraints come from the laws, which use its compulsory power and constitutions to control people's behaviors. For example, law forbids parents to left their children below a certain age along in houses; law requires parents to send children to school; law asks businessmen and companies to pay their employees reasonably; law asks employers to hire a certain portion of women and African Americans. In sum, law constrains and controls almost every aspect of our lives to some extent. Another factor that controls our behaviors is moral, which does not have compulsory force but still have great influence. Any individual, or company, that behaviors beyond the boundary of moral can not get respect and praise from others and society, which means lose of happy life and success in commercial world. So, in order to get a happy life and success, anyone must follow the moral standard or in other words, be controlled by moral.

Moreover, our lives are also influenced by politics, governments. The way politics and government influence us is different from law and moral, that is by speech, media, education and art which influence and change our ideas and values, thus control our behaviors. Every country, no matter communism and democracy, all make use of these ways. In education, from beginning we are taught the significance and advantages of our nation's moral, value, institutions. When we join the society, we are going on to be influenced by the public media and those speeches by politicians in TV or around us about those policies and social plans. The arts, especial those sponsored by government, sometimes contain government's opinion and thus indirectly influence audience. Although these way are comparatively indirect and have less influence than law and moral, their effect on our attitude and behaviors can not be ignored at all.

However, in my view, while many aspects of our lives and ideas are controlled or at least influenced society we live in, at the same time, a prosperous society may offer us more choices then it bring from us. For example, with a increasing economy, people have more choice about their lives and careers, with a advanced social security system, we have more freedom to change our jobs and interests; with law that assures the freedom of expression, different opinions can appear in newspapers and TVs , which may help to free our ideas and minds. So, in a prosperous society, contrary to the speaker's assertion, we have more choice. But in a few cases the claim has merit, for example, in Soviet Union, North Korea, and China that in two decades ago, people's lives are restrict controlled by nations, accompanied with low level of productivity and economy, choice, as the speaker says, is factually an illusion.

In sum, the speaker's claim has merit insofar as in a few cases. And I agree the claim that our lives are controlled by the society we live in to some extent. However, as I see in modern prosperous societies, the control from society has declined and at the same, choice is enriched in these societies.

总体还可以,文章可以在具体点,尤其是倒数第2段,讲到繁荣的社会有可以有选择的,是不会被社会所控制的, 具体的笔墨不多.可以在此增加点篇幅,举个例子之类.
