这篇写得不行了,一点思想都没有,恶心死了。。。

题目:ISSUE50 - "In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculties should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."
字数:493          用时:00:30:53          日期:2007-8-6 21:21:06

Should the faculty be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach? The author asserts they should. I fundamentally agree with the author. That kind of working could contribute to the faculty's own understanding of the courses they teach. Meanwhile, considering that one of the significant objects of the college education is to help students find an ideal job, the working experience outside the academic could also help the faculties to learn what are the things students really need in their future work, and then specially design their courses. However, overemphasis on this kind of working experience could do harm to their research.

To begin with, common sense tells us only when the theory combine with some practical experience, will the scholar have a deeper understanding of it. Although the faculties may have taught a course for many years, but it is always a problem for them: what's the course I teach is exactly used by industry nowadays? Especially for those professors teaching engineering foundation course, this problem seems to be more serious. Working outside the academic world could help a lot for the faculty to know is there any change in the using of his or her course, and is there necessity for them to have a change in course content in order to avoiding the knowledge they teach is far behind the contemporary. By doing some work in the field of industry, they will also gain the knowledge what kind of research is the industry nowadays actually need which could point out the direction of their future study.

Meanwhile, the college not only has responsibility to pace the science forward but also have an pragmatic object--help their students find an ideal job. In recent years, the situation of widespread unemployment has made a lot of pressure on the graduates. To prepare them ability to achieve a good job, the faculty should know more about what is the standard of the companies outside the academic world choosing employee. If the faculty stay in their laboratory every day, and never contact with the outside world, what they teach will be far from the real need of the industry therefore the graduates feel hard to get a job.

However, overemphasis could harm the research of the college given the time of the professors are limited. When they spend a lot of time working outside, the time they spent on research will be less which could lead to a negative influence on the college research. The college could not force or make a schedule for faculty to work outside. Every teacher could choose to work outside or not in which case the real purpose of this movement could be realized.

In sum, the faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world given the benefits it could bring to both faculty and students. However, overemphasis on it may lead to a negative influence.

I fundamentally agree with the author. That kind of workingpractice could contribute to the faculty's own understanding of the courses they teach. Meanwhile, considering that one of the significant objectives of the college education is to help students find an ideal job(这个,,,,额,这么说貌似不太好), the working experience outside the academic could also help the faculties to learn what are the things students really need in their future work, and then specially design their courses. However, overemphasis on this kind of working experience could do harm to their research(不是所有老师都research的,teaching好了). To begin with, common sense tells us only when the theory combine with some practical experience, will the scholar have a deeper understanding of it. Although the faculties may have taught a course for many years, but itthereis always a problem for them: what's(what) the course I teach is exactly used by industry nowadays? Especially for those professors teaching engineering foundation course, this problem seems to be more serious. Working outside the academic world could help a lot for the faculty to know is there(whether there is) any change in the using of his or her course, and is there necessity for them to have a change in course content in order to avoiding the knowledge they teach is far behind the contemporary. By doing some work in the field of industry(不一定都是industry还可能business), they will also gain the knowledge what kind of research is the industry nowadays actually need which could point out the direction of their future study.Meanwhile, the college not only has responsibility to pace the science forward(??不确定这个词组)but also have an pragmatic objective--help their students find an ideal job. In recent years, the situation of(去掉)widespread unemployment has made a lot of pressure on the graduates. To prepare them with ability to achieve a good job, the faculty should know more about what is the standard of the companies outside the academic world choosing employee. If the faculty stay in their laboratory every day, and never contact with the outside world, what they teach will be far from the real need of the industry therefore the graduates feel hard to get a job. The college could not force or make a schedule for faculty to work outside. Every teacher could choose to work outside or not in which case the real purpose of this movement could be realized. (过分强调的坏处应该主要说对学生的不好影响,这段没有体现出来)In sum, the faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world given the benefits it could bring to both faculty and students. However, overemphasis on it may lead to a negative influence.
