By studying from barbarism to civilization, along with the emergence of many great people, there is a permanent debate overthe issue, whether the greatness of individual should be decided by those wholive after them or by their contemporaries. Although the author asserts that itis the latter ones should judge the value of greatness, however, the finaljudgment should depend on a case-by-case basis.
“Although the author asserts that it is thelatter ones should judge the value of greatness,” should处有语法问题。 “However”有点多余。
When it comes to research in natural science, greatness must be tested overtime before ti can be reform. It is claimed that a creative theory often needslongstanding evidence to demonstrate its valid, while the evidence is oftendeficient at present time because of people' limit knowledge or restrictedmind. This situation is especially an example in medicine. As we know, a newcure or method has to be tested on animals before human beings. After that, itcan be applied clinically. This is a long process, so it could be that by thetime the effectiveness of the cure or method is confirmed to a large number ofpatients, the inventors may have already died. It does not mean that they arenot great, they only require a necessary process to testify their greatness.
”greatness must be tested over time before ti can be reform.” Reform-reformed,greatness,可不可以换个词?
Concerning the arts and literature, greatness lie in their enduring influenceto those people of later generations. It is true that many artists’ works aregreat, while not all of them were treated as great as well. Take Vincent VanGogh, as an example, who is a famous artist, with a great of outstandingpaintings, used to treated unfair, the people lived in the period even thoughtthat he was a madman. After his death, the art critics serve him as a milestonein art, a impressionism master. And his most famous work-the sunflower ishighly-appreciated. Although some artists were not recognized by theircontemporaries, their influence to the human beings was not weaken.
“Take VincentVan Gogh, as an example, who is a famous artist, with a great of outstandingpaintings, used to treated unfair, the people lived in the period even thoughtthat he was a madman.”不太通顺
“ Take Vincent Van Gogh as an example, althoughhe is well-known for the outstanding paintings that he has created now, hispainting was not so appreciated while he was alive, and thus he was evenbelived as a madman.”
However, in the realm of business, in most cases, great achievements arerecognizable immediately. The business elites, Bill Gates, Max Welch, areeminent in our modern societies because they are role models for our contemporaryconcept of success, meanwhile their achievements fulfilled the dream of mostpeople who want to earn big money. We give a highly praise to the ones who makea lot of money, by the time it is a standard criteria of success in our time,by the time that money is more and more important in our modern society, and bythe time when they contribute to our society during they earning money. It isthe opinion about value that to give our respect to these people.
All in all, from the discuss above, we can draw a conclusion that in somefields, greatness needs an enduring explore to find out, in order todemonstrate its value. While that in other aspects, opinion of contemporariesis more cogent. The greatness of individuals is due to its own nature as wellas people's value orientation in their times.
Explore是动词
觉得你用词很丰富,论据很翔实有力,就是句子通顺和断句方面应该更多斟酌,好像断太多了。“greatness needs an enduring explore to find out, in order todemonstrate its value.”中间的逗号好像不需要。
向你学习,希望能帮我看看。
第一篇
Issue 1
1. We can usually learn much more from people whose views weshare than from people whose views contradict our own; disagreement can causestress and inhibit learning. [1]
花了1个半小时
The speaker alleges thatwe can learn much more from people whose ideas are consistent with our own, since discord always pose detrimental effects towards the learning process. Iconcede that undue disagreement may cause stress and inhibit learning, however, listening to the contradicting view and discuss it with those dissidents willnot only provide us new perspectives when looking at the same thing, but alsoenlarge the dimensionality of knowledge that we are interested in.
Firstly, for everyparticular thing that we care about—no matter it is something in the nature orsomething created by human, we are forever not able to know what it truly is,since what we perceive is only the some pictures constructed by the mentality, and the pictures for the same fact will vary with the knowledge and experiencesof the person. Thus, in order to have a more general picture of the fact, wehave to listen to others, especially those whose ideas differ from us. In thisway, we can overcome the bias in our opinions when looking from it from moredifferent angles. One of the most famous emperor in the history of China isShimin li whose is the first emperor of Tang Dynasty, and he deserve theacclaim that he has received, since the accomplishments that he has achieved isthe most arresting of all emporors in China history. One of the reason for hisachievements is that he can listen to different ideas from his subordinates, especially those whose ideas contradict his own, in that way, he can fullyunderstand the merits and shortages of a policy, and made the policies that aremost beneficial for the society.
Secondly, as the authorimplies, it is easier for us to get access to the knowledge which is similar toour own, thus the knowledge that we acquire will in a large part depends onwhat we have learned in early days of our life, if we always avert to approachthose ideas who are not accord with our ideas, we will forever acquireknowledge which is path-dependent and will be chained up to the field. However,if we can discuss with others who have different opinions, we will enlarge thespectrum of our knowledge, and will even help us to understand what we havealready known better. For instance, if you are interested in economics and haveread many papers about how to increase GDP of a country, you will be verysensitive to the articals which will convince you that enlarge GDP of yourcountry is the most efficient way to impove the utility of the people, however,if you can listen to some different ideas which claim that a good environmentand equality of the people is very important, your knowledged will be widenedin the way that you will also want to know something about how to improve theenvironment, and the concept of Green GDP must come from those who care both.
However, contradictionin ideas will bring about nothing if we do not try to control our motion andspend too much time in debating who is right. The reason why we can not learnfrom this kind of debation originates from our atitude towards the debation andthus the content of it. In this way, we are only interested in how to prove thatour own ideas is better, while ignoring the importance of finding commongrounds and acknowledging the merits of other opinions. The result is that noone will learn anything meaningful
In sum, although pureemotional debate can impede learning and waste our time, listen to differentideas and opinions dispassionately will enlarge the range of our knowledge, andwill also provide us different angles for the same thing. Thus we can notconclude that discussing with those who hold different positions will impedelearning unconditionally, to the contrary, if we can train ourselves of theability to enjoy the merits of others opinions just as we like our own ideas,we will have a broader view towards the nature and ourselves. |
