         Is it the artist, or the critic, who gives society something of lasting value? Artists and critics are just like twins. They are often talked about by us together. In my point of view, the two are notmutually exclusive It is by the artist’s great art works
let our life more wonderful, and at the same time, it is by the critic’s positive evaluation promote the art flourish.

        Art is a treasure of the human beings society civilization history. In the long river of history, art and science together boost the society civilization of the human beings, and record history of the human beings progress. Art is carrier of history, reveal the otherwise hidden ideas and impulse of a society, have lasting value. For instance, Jane Eyre encourage numberless ordinary people to struggle for their blessedness, Van Gogh’s famous work “sunflowers”, it is dense and strong color reveal the Van Gogh’s craze love to life. We are feel the convulsion, passion, brightness, warmth, affection and happiness again and again form art. Art is a forever theme to human being.

         Critics have three functions. First, critics play the bridge between the artists and the publics. The common people have
not enough art’s feeling, need critics take on a responsibility of annotation. Critics can help us understand and read between the lines art; a critic who is familiar with a particular artist and his or her works might have certain insights about those works that layman would not. Secondly, critics can completely show their academic pursuit from various exhibitions’ criticism，critic belongs to artist from this significance. Critic is a recessive curator. They are more responsibility is dig out more art work and artist, not threaten the integrity of the arts, not impose their thought to artist that cut the throat of the art’s freedom progress. Promote the arts pluralistic. Thirdly, consider the commercial aspect, critics bring on art market prosperity, more artwork be introduced to the collector, connoisseur and demos. No matter the criticism is good or bad, the artist’s reputation is increasing if only his or her name be mentioned by a well-known critic. Exactitude and objective criticism is also a sort of art, although this is not easy to discovered and evaluated. It gives society something of lasting value like artworks.

          Artist and critic accelerate each other, critic provide feed back for artists; and constructive criticism, can result in better work only if taken to heart. Artist create art work need people to understand and appreciate, need critic propagandize. Have not artists have not critics, have not critics have not artist, like water and fish, only they are harmonious, the art will better
grow.

           In sum, artists create something of long lasting values and critics convey these values to the publics, help art pullulate, stimulate art market. With the efforts from both the artists and critics, the spirits of our humans make a progress.
