At present, everyone in the world is naturally entitled to receive education. In the mean time, which part is more important to students in the process of education has been hectic debates among numerous people. In considering the required courses, different people have diverse opinions. Some people hold the viewpoint that science and mathematics are more important than history and literature. As for me, I cannot agree with them any more. There are many reasons why I hold confidence on my point of view, and I will explore a few primary ones here.
First of all, natural science contributes directly to the development of human society and no one in the modern society can live without any relation with science and technology. Although both social and natural science courses play an important role in the whole education system, natural science seems to have a greater impact on human progress. Take our ordinary lives for example, everything we contact everyday, from the most negligible part such as drinking a bottle of purified water, to some crucial events such as going to work and communication with friends through cell phone or internet, all of which seem extremely plain in our lives, are actually vital to us.
Besides, science and mathematics are essential skills in both day-to-day life and work. For instance, many people are fond of traveling, which always accompany with some unpredictable troubles, such as accidental injury and hurt. If we do not have the basic knowledge of subsistence in the outside, it is hard for us to survival and do not have the luck of appreciating the beautiful scene of the magnificent nature. Also, in our everyday work, using computer is of the basic skills that everyone has to master. We should learn how to use computer to receive and send e-mail, to using instant communicating software to get in contact with the managers. Therefore, natural science is definitely important to people’s lives.
Admittedly, literature and history have some advantages to people's material life especially to those poor people who are still struggling for the essential needs of shelters and foods. However, they cannot be put into practice to some extend. Research and development of science and mathematics on the contrary can be applied to our real life and improve our living standard.
In conclusion, although both natural and social sciences has its own benefits, from the reasons I listed above, I still hold my perspective that science and mathematics are more important to students.
