How do I apply?
2 a' L- y: K F1 \Application for admission is made through the Office of Undergraduate Admission to one of the six undergraduate schools. In determining whether to accept an applicant, Northwestern requires the following:

Standardized testing The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT Reasoning Test) or American College Test (ACT) with writing is required of all applicants. Two SAT Subject Test scores are required of all applicants to the Honors Program in Medical Education, and three SAT Subject Test scores are required for the Integrated Science Program. The SAT Subject Test is recommended for all other applicants. Higher SAT Subject Test scores tend to offset lower SAT Reasoning Test or ACT results.

If you are certain that Northwestern is where you want to enroll, we encourage you to apply under our Early Decision plan (see table above for deadlines). As with all traditional Early Decision plans, you agree to withdraw all applications at other colleges and enroll at Northwestern if admitted. Students interested in HPME must apply under the Regular Decision plan.% L5 a' {8 Q) {, J: C+ a
9 G0 r4 ]; h+ B% O, D6 Z
Applicants who choose Early Decision send a strong, positive message to Northwestern. Given their high level of interest and overall academic and personal strength, the rate of admission for our Early Decision applicants is higher than our overall admit rate. We do not make a practice of deferring Early Decision applicants into our Regular Decision plan.

, a1 `2 K8 o$ x D# ?' Students admitted under Early Decision may be released from the commitment to enroll at Northwestern only for financial reasons.

Who is accepted to Northwestern?1 B6 h0 o1 H g" I6 @
Each year we receive applications from far more students than we can admit. Students admitted to Northwestern must be clearly capable of succeeding in the University's academic environment. The middle 50 percent of test scores for entering students ranges from 29 to 33 on the ACT; on the SAT Reasoning Test, the critical reading range was 650 to 730 and the math from 660 to 750. The most reliable predictor of success at Northwestern is a strong academic performance at the secondary school level. The mean high school class rank of enrolled freshmen has been at the 94th percentile.

- e0 G& X; r$ _# a/ }0 M- @4 nStudents who have been educated at home are required to submit the results of three SAT Subject Tests in addition to their SAT Reasoning Test or ACT with writing results. Math Level 1 or 2 — for students who plan to study sciences or engineering, Math Level 2 is clearly preferable — plus two other SAT Subject Tests of the applicant's choice from different subject areas (i.e., not two science or two foreign language or two history, etc.) are required.

Recommendations from secondary school teachers and counselors add perspective to your achievements. Financial Aid for International Students

# P: u% @# }- F! w( |! A& E! \
9 k ]; r) e' X8 e& ]The usual selective admission criteria, as well as the amount of financial aid needed by an applicant, will be factors in the admission committee's decision. As a result, Northwestern will not offer admission to some candidates who are otherwise well-qualified. For these reasons, the admission rate for international applicants requesting aid is substantially lower than for those not requesting aid. Only those students who apply for and receive financial aid for their freshman year will be eligible to receive financial assistance in subsequent years. There is no financial aid available for international transfer applicants or international students applying under Early Decision.

Strong candidates for admission are encouraged to take a demanding program of study throughout their secondary school career. "Demanding program" is defined differently in each country, school, and educational system. Northwestern University does not prescribe the curriculum candidates should study in secondary school, but expects clear academic success and strong results in all courses and on all examinations.2 ]! {4 O! 9 F) J# ^5 p* X, ZPrior to the expected date of enrollment at Northwestern, students should complete an academic program which would allow them to enter a university in their home country. For example, students in a British-based education system should complete A-level examinations before enrollment. Most applicants will begin the application process during their final year of pre-university preparation. Students who have already enrolled at another postsecondary institution are not eligible for freshman admission and should apply for transfer admission.

' n/ l2 V3 }5 O" K1 ]Due to application materials deadlines, applicants should have their schools send predicted scores for university entrance examinations (e.g. A-level, Baccalaureate, Abitur, International Baccalaureate, Australian HSC, etc.) to the Office of Undergraduate Admission. These final scores will be evaluated by the University registrar on an individual basis for the possible award of up to one full year of academic credit.
