1.      Techno 的学生 chose a major directly related to their after-school activities 的学生是 many ,作者并没有说是多少,我们并不知道比 Academia 多多少。即多很多。即使比 Academia 的多,也肯能比本校实施 computer-technology programs 前的少,则这个新项目就没有起积极作用。
2.      但作者并没有提供多少选 chose a major directly related to their after-school activities 的学生参加了 computer-technology programs ,也许很多同学没有参加这个可后活动,即这个课后活动没作用。
Academia
1>      Academia 没有计算机,
2>      没有懂计算机的老师

TOPIC: ARGUMENT133 - The following is a memo from the principal of Academia High School.

"Academia High School should abolish its after-school performing-arts programs and replace them with computer-technology programs. When nearby Techno High School did so last year, total enrollment in all of its after-school activities remained about the same. Moreover, on entering college, many Techno students chose a major directly related to their after-school activities. On the other hand, last year only 10 percent of Academia's graduating seniors chose performing arts as their major field of study in their first year of college, clearly indicating that most students do not have a strong interest in the performing arts."

The author, in the memo, recommended computer-technology grograms as a substitute for the initial afer-school performing-ars programs. To substitiate his  recommendation, the author cited the significant effect in Techno High School, which use the computer-technology grograms. The recommendation is problematic in several aspects, thus render it unconvincing as it stands.

First of all, the author fail to provide clear evidence how much students in Techno chose a major directy related to their after-school activities. We cannot be convinced that there are far more students in Techno chose performing arts as their major field of study than the students in Academia High School. Even I conced it is true, the author provide absolutely no evidence that more students in Techno chose a major related to their after-school activities than before adation of computer-technology grograms. It is highly possible that the number decreased after the new after-school activities because the students pay more attention to play computer games and other entainments rather than their performing art. If so the computer-technology grograms cannot be regarded as a influence which can benefit the students's after-school performing-art .

In addition, even more studnets in Techno choose performing arts as thier major than before, the author cannot attribute computer-technology grograms to the effect, perhaps there are other factors cause the increase. For example, the prospective career of performing arts are better than before, the fierce competatin in society make the students have to consider which subject will best benefit their future work, and it is also highly possible, the students choose performing arts merely because of their interests, or a mayrid of other factors might influence their choice. Thus the increasing Techno students cannot illustrate the effect of computer-technology grograms.

Last, even the author rule out other facters beside computer-technology grograms, it is not surely a reasinable choice for Academia High School. The effect Techno cannot guarentee the same effects in Academia High School because of their special conditions.First, it is highly possible that there are not suficient computer available. Second, there are less teacher who are qualified to teach the students finish their work in computer.

In sum, to convince me that the recommendation is reasonable, the author should providence that it is computer-technology grograms that influence more students in Techno choose performing arts as their major field. To better asses the recommendation, I need the evidence that Academia High share the same condation with Techno.

TOPIC: ARGUMENT133 - The following is a memo from the principal of Academia High School.

WORDS: 499         TIME: 00:52:26          MODIFY: 2007-8-24 16:54:29--17:46:55

The author, in the memo, recommended computer-technology programs as a substitute for the initial after-school performing-arts programs. To substantiate his recommendation, the author cited the effect in Techno High School which deployed the new programs last year. The recommendation is problematic in several aspects, thus render it unconvincing as it stands.

First of all, the author failed to clearly inform us how much students in Techno chose a major directly related to their after-school activities. We cannot be convinced that there are far more students in Techno chose performing arts as their major field of study than the students in Academia High School which had only 10 percent of graduating senior did so last year. Even I were concede it is true, the author provide absolutely no evidence that more students in Techno chose a major related to their after-school activities than before adoption of computer-technology programs. It is highly possible that the number decreased after the new after-school activities because the students pay more attention to play computer games and other entertainments rather than their performing art. The computer-technology programs, in this circumstance, cannot be regarded as a positive influence which can benefit the students' after-school performing-art.

In addition, even the number of Techno students, who has chosen performing arts as their major, dramatic increased than before adoption of computer-technology programs, the author unfairly assumes that the increase must be attribute to the computer-technology programs—rather than some other factors. For example, it is highly possible the prospective career of performing arts are better than before, the fierce competition in society make the students have to consider which subject will best benefit their future work, and it is also entirely possible, the students, more often than not, choose performing arts merely because of their interests, or a myriad of other factors might influence their choice. Without ruling out all other possible explanations the author cannot convince me that computer-technology program is the cause why more students in Techno chose performing arts as their major last year. .

At Last, even the author substantiated the assumption mentioned above, it is fairly possible that the significant increase of students chose performing-arts major in Techno would not suffice to ensure similar effect in Academia – due to the sort of factors contribute to the adoption of computer-technology programs but would not come to play in Academia. For example, it is highly possible that there are not sufficient computer available in Academia. And perhaps there are few teachers who are qualified to teach the students finish their work in computer. Under this circumstance, it is far from just a recommendation to deploy the computer-technology programs.

In sum, to convince me that the recommendation is reasonable, the author should provide evidence that it is computer-technology program that influenced more students in Techno choose performing arts as their major field. To better asses the recommendation, I need the evidence that Academia school share the same condition with Techno to guarantee that they can adopt the computer-technology programs.
