"You have to win, have to compete with others, only by so, can you survive in the future society." My aunt, a mother of six years old boy, always like to repeat this to his san. Competation has been regarde as a way of life by our parents, teachers as well as the leaders in the companies, because certain inherent advantage it holds. Which made today's children never lack the opertunaties to instill the sense to competition: the game, the entrance examination, the work interview and the like. While the reult of overemphsis on competition is that the children's lack of sense of cooperation and team work which is even more critical quality to guarantee their future success.

Admittedly, the advantage of competition obvious. To witness this, you need look no further than the sports game. "Higher, swifter, stronger", as the spirit of Olympic Game, has been served far beyond a slogon. First, competition serve as a driving force can help cure the lazy of common people, China's development can best demostrate this point, before the "Open up and reform" policy which was pinieered by Mr. Deng Xiaoping in 1979, All the people were treated equaly, less competation leads to less productivity and leads to the poverty on a social level.  Second, Competation encourage people to achive higher target, this is accodant with the spirit of Olympic Game we just refered. In a company, a healthy competation can serve as a catylist to help each member to try to do better than what he did before, and than what his follows do now, and benefit the company as a whole.

Netheless, excessive emphisis on competation can be extreamly harmful, which will detrimate the stability and harmony of a group, and inflict on the development of the group, which need cooperation to make it develop better.

Competation is in order to distinguish winer from loser, it is cooperation that make every one a winer.  This is become even true when it comes to current world. Cooperation, compared with competition, becoms even essential for the current world where interation and interdependence have been so critical that any individuals cannot make progress, even a tiny breakthrough, without cooperation with others. The merits of cooperation has been realized by more and more people.

The first and formost important advantange of cooperation, in my view, is that it can help avoid the mistake which easily made by any individuals, thus benefits the group as a whole. The paradigmatic example is the development of software, where competition is encouraged while cooperation and teamwork is highlighened. There is a process called "review" or "check", in which the program of one developer will be criticized by the other developers before the function test. Some minor errors and small problems can be found only by reading the code rather runing it. And this work have to be performed by the others, not the author himself who cannot usually find his own problems. There are simiar work in nearly every fields, the cooperation helps correct the errors of its members and improve th work of group.

The Second merit of cooperation is that it can improve the efficiency of group. The work of groups can be much bigger than the amount of all their own work if they cooperate effectively. The assemblely is the best example, which help enhance the effciency of nearly every field, and brough revolutionary progress to these fields, the car factories, the software companies, which benefits our life.

In sum, competation, which usually emphisised by most of people, brings bigger benefits than without it. While cooperation motivates people much more by that it can help people avoid errors in group and enhance the group efficiency. This is accordant with the spirit of Olympic Game we referred before and clearly demonstrated by the athletes’ performance in the games. Second, on a social level, the companies, for the sake of survival in competition, must continue to improve their services and products, and as a result, the entire society prospers, at least economically. China’s development in the last several decades serves as a paradigmatic example. Before adoption of “Reform and Opening up” policy which was pioneered by Mr. Deng Xiaoping in 1979, all the people’s works were treated extremely equally. Less competition led to less productivity and resulted in the poverty.

Nevertheless, excessive emphasis on competition can be extremely negative, the potential harm it inflicts on the stability and harmony of a group will far outweigh its benefits. Because competition is in order only when there is no enough room for everyone to be a winner and its purpose is to separate winner from loser, while cooperation is the only driving force which can make every participant a winner. This is become even true when it comes to current world where interaction and interdependence become so critical that any individuals cannot make progress, even a tiny breakthrough, without cooperation with others. Under such circumstance, cooperation-- another side to relationship –will show its advantage.

This theory is applied in the modern management. The assemble line is far more productive than the traditional process in which each worker are required to finish all the process because every worker only need to finish one special process in assemble line. This enhanced efficiency can be observed on the soccer playground, US national football team could defeat Portugal football team in 2002 World Cup owns more to their cooperation and hard work than the excellent skills of several individual players. And this theory that one plus one can be more than two can be observed in nearly all the fields

In sum, competition, which usually emphasized by most of people, brings bigger benefits than without it. Especially in this super-modern world where tasks are more complex, we know that we have to work in team—no matter in an orchestra, in the workplace, in the office or the other kind of team. The benefit of cooperation is beautifully summed in Bible as follows: Though one can be overpower, two can defend themselves.
