Issue 197 “The material progress and well-being of one country are necessarily connected to the material progress and well-being of all other countries.”

When the industrial revolution happened in England and other European countries in 18th century, the oriental civilization is in the rein of Qing Dynasty, the emperors of which sticked to a policy that kept the country locked to the outside world. Only when warships approaching its port, Qing officals realized that their material abundance and well-being had been outrun by countries which they used to look down upon. Such a span of history conveys that material progress and well-being of one nation should not be disconnected with that of the other countries, especially in an era of globlization.

With the backdrop of globlization, the economic advancement of a country is very likely to stimulate the material progress of the other countries, though there might be tension between the swiftly advanced country and its neighbors. Americans are well known for their well-bing, which enables them to spend a smaller part of income on food and other home appliance than people of the other countries. However, there is contribution from the developing countries, whoes economy progress gives rise to their manufacturing prowess. Developing countries like China and Indian produce most of the merchandises in Wal-Mart. Changing to the opposite perspective, we should also adimtted that economy boom in devoloping countries should partly be attributed to developed countries, like America. To go deeper in the economic bond between countries, we should take a close look at the synergy among them from the following points.

First, the economic bond leads to the complementary advantages of each country in terms of resourses. The comparatively lower cost of human resources in developing countries and the abundant technology resourses in countries like America and Germany give birth to the different roles of different countries in the world factory. As we can see it, all the countries involved in the international synergy benefit from their own role. It is necessary to point out that synergy is fundamentally cooperation, in stead of one country make use of the other.

Second, economic ties formed in the process of pursuing well-being foster a stabler international relationship, which, in return, promote the material progress of countries within the bond. America-Sino relationship is a persuasive. There were many conficts between America and China in all walks of international relationship, say in economic, political and even military aspects. However, the strong trade cooperation between the super power and the most populated country prevent the esclations. It is such comparatively stable relationship that further promote the coordinations between them, as all of us can see it.

Though I strongly advocate the connection between different countries in pursuit of material progress and well-being, it is against my will to ingore some of the side effects brought by unfair economic “cooperation” and all forms of trade barriers, even economy sanctions. To wrap up, the concept of synergy should be harked back. Win-win results in synergy between countries is what the international community wants, and it is real synergy that I advocate in different countries' pursuit of their own well-beings.
