I generally disagree with the speaker that the true effectiveness of education can only be fulfilled by satisfying needs and interest of each student. It seems implausible to achieve such goal. Instead, I maintain that an educational system lies in a series of factors including taking advantage of the resources available, instilling the basic skills and inquiries required (把required放在skills前面是不是更易理解一些)and consideration of individual needs as well as interest.
To begin with, the speaker's effective education seems implausible on several aspects. Firstly, each student should obtain unambiguous aims, requires or interest in their studies before the educators could arrange the individualized curriculum for each student. However, as common sense informs me, the majority of students form merely vague ideas pertaining to their needs or interest until late in their high school, undergraduate education or even later thus without definite purposes or requires of the students, it is hardly possible for the educators to figure out a specific plans for education. Nor could they achieve effective education in such education(两个education放在一起,感觉用词有些重复). Secondly, the interests or needs of the student are capricious and vary from individuals, resulting in frequently changing plans, non-systematic educational programs or fragmented syllabus(个人意见,因为你整篇文章的字数已经挺多的了,这些表示相同意思的单词是不是可以省略). Had a professor been kept interrupting by students' claiming their currently formed ideas and interest, the class would have ended up in altering the contents or controversy among students with various personal needs. To certain extent, compromising to the individual needs or interest of the students is likely to make concession in education quality and efficacy.(很有个性的句子,很好!) Thirdly, with limited resources and funds, it is unrealistic to carter every interest or desires of the students. For instance, the common high schools could hardly provide training programs or equipment for students who are interested to become astronauts. In a word, it is almost impossible to satiate individual interest or needs of the students, without mentioning the goal of effective education.
Furthermore, effectiveness of education serves the requirement of society, containing far wider-ranging content than developing individual interest and fulfilling personal needs. Besides instilling information and experience of various disciplines, education shoulders the task of imparting the moral rules, tradition and values of certain society, fostering low-abiding social members and culturing a generation of responsible citizens that actively involve (involved)in civic participation to contribute positively to the nation as a whole. On the other hand, an education only focusing (on)the personal needs and interesting without attaching importance to social needs functions as incubator for selfishness, egoism and irresponsibility. Effective education not only stretches a helping hand to realizing the dream of the students but also captures the children's attention to the sociological concepts required to become eligible citizens for health (healthy)society. In short, education covering only personal needs or interest could hardly achieve true effectiveness.
Finally, effective education attempts to develop the skills so that the students could fulfill their interest and needs by themselves via searching information, self-study and expanding knowledge by experiments or research. (从这句话开始意思有转折,加上一个过渡的词语或词组应该更好)The philosophers put it this way, ' there is no end for learning.' In an era when science and technology are constantly changing with(是不是应该用in) each passing day, when (可以省略when直接用and连接)Internet detonates information explosion with a myriad of novel ideas, various values or evanescent fashionable stuff, people have to continue learning without cessation in perpetuity for the ever-changing interest and needs. Education has expanded its span from limited years of schooling to a whole lifetime. Therefore, traditional one-direction education pattern with teachers as transmitters and students as passive receivers aiming at current individual needs have definitely become obsolete while truly effective education fosters basic skills for searching, filtering and arranging information and keen mind of curiosity ready for absorbing novel ideas.
Admittedly, education could by no means achieve effectiveness without consideration of the personal needs and interest of the students. Faced with fierce competition of today’s society, students have to explore their potential and competence to the maximum through education to stand out from their peers in the job market thus an individualized education in tune with the times is a pressing need. Besides, arousing the interest and meeting personal needs seems especially effective in crystallizing an alert mind and motive for learning, multiplying the effectiveness of education. Natural and true is that students tend to be highly concerned on the classes or contents which could arouse their interest or pertain to their needs. On the contrary, the enthusiasm is likely to fade in classes irrelevant to the students’ interest.
In sum, truly effective education comprises wider range of content rather than merely aiming at individual needs or interest of students with consideration of the social needs and developing skills for self-study so that the students could achieve their personal aims or develop interest independently(总结得很好,这句话!). Moreover, the poles of the paradox, either solely individual-centered or total ignorance of personal needs could compromise the effectiveness of education
但对作者的文章有两个总体感觉,一是篇幅很长,作者将同一概念用不同的词组表达,例如the moral rules, tradition and values of certain society / changing plans, non-systematic educational programs or fragmented syllabus我觉得在字数足够的前提下,某些地方适当简略一些是不是更好!二是作者习惯用动名词,但记得我们英语老师说过,地道的外语中动名词的使用频率不是很高的!
个人看法,仅供参考,呵呵! |
