It has been increasingly difficult to ignore the top issue on the influences brought by art today. The speaker asserts that the varieties of arts reveal the otherwise hidden ideas and impulses of a society. I am in the same position. Art can convey certain emotional feelings which sometimes can not or is not allowed to be expressed by language and the expression has great possibility to formulate the mainstream of the society because of the overwhelming public supports. To evidence the justness of the statement, the following argument is open to all.
Firstly,as we have seen, an art work, whether realistic or abstract, can tell stories or depict ideas. And the most important issue in art is it expresses or stirs emotions.It can be considered as a record of what the artist is feeling and simultaneously, it can bring about emotional reactions in the viewer.Taking one form of art, music, for an example to add the weight to the standpoint, during the process of listening to music, we may experience one of those magic moments wherein we discover ourselves which is similar with the emotional experience when the composer creates the work. A piece of bright music tends to expose the feelings of joy and celebration, as well as longing, beauty and innocence. It convey the creator's mood is entirely eliminated from anger, frustration or fear. Sometimes such kind of feeling is impossible well expressed by superficial languages of people. Therefore, inspiring art work contains a implicit message for everyone to receive. All we need to do is to earnestly enjoy it with an open heart and allow the art to do what it has always done best in uplifting the human spirit and soothing the soul.
What is more, the art work is entirely functional to reveal the hidden ideas strictly prohibited by the society and traditional values. The administrations usually make their media in press bear some limitation in mind in search of their personal interests. And what we are witnessing is not only an erosion of traditional values but a corresponding erosion of the authenticity of press media and authority of government. Under such environment, often art is likely to describe human behaviour and surroundings exactly on the basis of the observation of reality impartially and objectively by an approach of rhetorical obscurity., such as symbolic devices, metaphor and so on. Charles Dickens, a famous British realistic novelist in the Victorial Age of English, provided us with a vivid picture of the everyday life of the ordinary people of that time. A large number of characters he had created are quite impressive and unforgettable by readers, such as the bittersweet life of an orphan boy Oliver Twist and Pip. Both of them exposed the detailed and direct depiction of the underworld of London and the malignant influence of varieties evils in society at that period on the development of youngster. Accordingly, art can make the realistic situation explicit to public readers which is greatly impossible by the government media because of their much concerns on the authority of leadership.
Last but not least, we can draw a conclusion from the above two standpoints that art can be evaluated as a reflection of reality and life,sometimes even the sharp criticism to the society. Therefore, it is what most people are thinking of, in another way to say, the impulse of the society. The first American novelist, James Fenimore Cooper, also the first American writer who introduced the ideas of "the west", wilderness and pioneering spirit into American literature, unfolded a frontiersman whose action were shaped by the forest in which he lived. It seems to be related in some way to the real experience of the American people themselves. Thus, by literature we are granted the mainstream of society in that period.
In summary, from such like and these considerations, it clearly shows the profits of art brought to the human society. If regarding the development of the world as a kind of reagent, the art would like to be the catalyst of the process of reagent to accelerate or sometimes decelerate the process in the transfering of hidden ideas and lead the mainstream of the society.
