I agree with the speaker's assertion that scandals can be useful in many areas. After all, they focus our attention on problems which are usually neglected by us. However, scandals always take some troubles to us, which sometimes are not a good
thing.

On the one hand, I concede that the speaker has realized the good influence of scandals, which disclose the covered  squalidity and help us to pay attention to some unknown problems. We all know the Nixon's Watergate Affair which is a well-known political scandal. Without scandals, the public could not realize anything to the political problems.  Another example is the scandal of football corruption in china, which is called "Black Whistle". Now people pay much attention to it. In the economic realm, a good example is the Anron scandal which was unimaginable to all of us. Thus, the problems of financial system in the world are well considered by the public. It is extraordinary usual that a scandal relates with waste of large amount of public resources. The resources would be more beneficial to the world if they could be spent in helping the sick children in the Africa or otherwise be used for addressing the problems of the environment pollution and unemployment in America.

On the second hand, scandals may also distract us from substaintial problems which are related, they should not be exaggerated. When a scandal is uncovered to the public, people do not focus on genesis of the scandal, but they pay more attention to the scandal itself. Thus, this can not solve the real problem. What's more, many people's work will be disrupted or even delayed by the scandal. In such a way, the scandal does not help us, but has detrimental effect to us. In the end, we will spend a lot of resources to reveal scandals, sometimes it need more resources than the scandal's bad influence to the society. So we have to think about the significance deeply before we decide to reveal it, after all, changing the improper system behind the scandal is more significative to us.

To sum up, without scandals, we sometimes do not know that we still have problems which need to solve. But superfluous attention to scandals would be detrimental, because solving the problems behind the scandal is more important than the scandal itself. We have our own work to do which should not be disrupted by scandals. Thus, a balance between them is  very crucial .
