243 The true value of a civilization is reflected in its artistic creations rather than in its scientific accomplishments

I agree with the statement in some respect, for artistic creations do create a significant contribution to the civilization. At the meantime, the speaker ignores the importance of scientific accomplishment. Moreover, artistic creations and scientific accomplishment are depending on each other.

We should see that the artistic creations play an important role in the human civilization. Arts can enhance the human spirit. Reading a good novel or watching a fantastic film make us reconsider about our life, even the world which we living in. For example, consider the methods that aimed to prevent whales, by listen to the CDs which record with the song of whales, people take an affirmative attitude to prevent it. Up until now, it's proved to be the best way in this area. To some extend, artistic creation present more quick and effective for enhancing the civilization of human rather than certain exact but coldness scientific numbers.

Although the arts do a big effort to the civilization of human, it's illogically to generalize that the true value of a civilization is reflected in its artistic creations more than in its scientific accomplishments. Imagine the history of human, the increasing of productivity led our society into a civilized one gradually. Scientific endeavors also have the great affect on the future quality of life and the tomorrow civilization. We may retrospect social problems by watching a good film. But a big amount of these problems could not be solve radically only with the compassionate of human. Consider a society without any scientific accomplishments, its productions are not enough to individual’s basic needs, this kind of society is certainly full of convulsion and steal, and less civilization could be found. Thus, advance in science has a potential benefice to the civilization of human, although it seems less obvious.

In the final analysis, art and science are not mutually exclusive. A film which describes future may provide guidance to the science research. Furthermore, scientific accomplishments are also the basis of artistic creations. The movie “Traveling Birds” convulses us by present us varies vision of bird’s fly with the sophisticate technology and the helping of scientists who study the birds. Additionally, if scientists find that whales will do a disaster to human, all the artistic creation may have to change there purpose to restrict whales rather than protect it.

In sum, it's unfair to say that art reflected more to science in the value of civilization. These two are equally important. Artistic creations may be the quick and effective way to enhance human's civilization level in an immediate society problem, nevertheless science promoted human's civilization essentially.

另外和楼上意见一样,第二段的例子不太好,我觉得和文明的真正意义的关系不大.
