"In Megalopolis, the number of law school graduates who went to work for large, corporate firms declined by 15 percent over the last three years, whereas an increasing number of graduates took jobs at small, general practice firms. Even though large firms usually offer much higher salaries, law school graduates are choosing to work for the smaller firms most likely because they experience greater job satisfaction at smaller firms. In a survey of first-year students at a leading law school, most agreed with the statement that earning a high salary was less important to them than job satisfaction. This finding suggests that the large, corporate firms of Megalopolis will need to offer graduates more benefits and incentives and reduce the number of hours they must work."

This argument is relatively sound; however, the arguer fails to provide valid evidence to make the recommendation convinced.

First, the overall situation of the labor market is still under the darkness. As we informed by arguer, the corporate firms’ employees of graduate gradually get reduced within 3 years. However, chances are that this is just a fluctuation of the labor market. It is likely that these 3 years is unfortunately a period of time, when less graduate out of their school and looking for a job. Or Large company higher their criteria for enrollment in order to make sure more high quality students get involved.

Second, the argument is based on a unwarranted assumption that a higer salaries combined with a reduction of the working hours will attract more students to the coorperate firms automatically. However, in all the possibilities, this is simply not the case especially since the arguer explicits that graduate attach more importance on the job satisfaction than income growth or bonus. As common sense informs, for these youngsters, what they really bear in mind is whether they can posess a more brilliant life in the future. For that reason, they may care less about their salaries in their early years of the career but rather the experience and happiness they can obtain from the job, contradicting the arguer's opinion.

Third, the survey that arguer committed lack reliability and generality. On the one hand, from the reliability, the methodology of the survey should be taken into consideration, which is largely related to the credibility of the result. More specifically, the technique of questioning, the designing of the questionnaires, the training of the performers should be listed and confirmed before readers make their judgment on the validity of the result. On the other hand, from the generality, the profession is confined to law school student , therefore, it may only cover a small group of graduate's opinion and too narrow and lack legitimate to represent the trends of all the graduate as a whole. What's more, the total number, gender, age of the participants should also not left out of the consideration like what I have stated previously.

To sum up, it may important or even crucial for large cooperate company to attract much more excellent youngsters to serve as flesh blood of the company. However, before making his final decision, the arguer should figure it out beforehand, what does these youngsters really need? A higher salary combined with a casual life or, on the other hand, perhaps more importantly, a much more valuable experience from their work places?
