people in North China who are applying for admission
to Yale as undergraduates.  

. B- V, U1 ^3 s" D4 {The interviews must be completed by the end of
/ t7 z! m1 h9 e: N  y5 S3 R2 G/ B  k  [February.  I would like to conduct a few interviews
before the onset of Chunjie; the rest will take place
in February, whenever convenient.

available for an interview in the days before Chuxi.

applicant in my flat.  This is a relaxed conversation
for which there is no 憄reparation?  The interview is

though I am more interested in you as a person than as
5 r& Y  z* G: f/ V! C& W1 Han 慳chiever?

1 d% V7 z% C. ^them.  Also, I do not ever meet or speak with the

I live on the campus of the Zhongguo Dizhi Daxue in
Haidian.  Our main gate, i.e. the north-central gate,
8 K6 W! s: W9 m5 U' R$ M( n; b+ gis opposite the main south gate of the Beijing Yuyan
7 F% Z6 X2 `: w  V) i( d# p# ~Wenhua Daxue (or Yuyan Xueyuan, or Beiyu).  From the
( g/ x- \$ q, \  xnorth-central gate, proceed about 200 meters south,
till you come to a major crossroads; Dormitory 9 will
be on your right.  At the corner, turn right and
proceed about 300 meters. I live in Building 38, Flat
153.  Building 38 is a new six-floor structure that
you will see on your left, inside an area with a black
2 @, n! O- Y, \$ t( s; M# vmetal fence and its own gateway. The building is
- Q! J' a2 E0 A1 n3 O$ Q0 P9 kpainted pale yellow and dark pink.  My telephone

place, is 8232-7485.

If you are coming from outside Beijing, the important
0 D* e& q) f1 i5 o1 `# L( Bthing to know is that the campus is in Haidian Qu, in
) h1 C, g: y* m2 h, n; Qthe outer northwestern part of Beijing, about a
kilometer east of Qinghua University.  To get here,
tell your taxi driver to take you to the south gate of
  V: E( W( r6 ]( [3 D0 k5 Hthe Yuyan Xueyuan [the Beijing Language Institute].
% y+ S; x( g& [9 V: B3 r# OMention Wudaokou, the nearby market area.  The south
gate of the Yuyan Xueyuan and our north gate are both
on Chengfu Lu (cheng2fu3).  You can also get here by
taking the new light rail line (qinggui) from Xizhimen
" A9 P2 f, q3 _underground station to Wudaokou station and then
1 d* Z4 r) ~! F& p% t) t! r  Pwalking east on Chengfu Lu till you come to our
6 e4 |9 Z2 Z' @+ wnorthwest or north-central gate, which will be on your
right.
