The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Yale
University has forwarded your name to me for an

! [, G8 G. u, q4 g/ Y! Zpeople in North China who are applying for admission
to Yale as undergraduates.

February.  I would like to conduct a few interviews
before the onset of Chunjie; the rest will take place
in February, whenever convenient.

What I would like to find out today is whether you are
available for an interview in the days before Chuxi.

not a test. You can bring a few documents if you wish,
though I am more interested in you as a person than as

  H' m( V6 h  |  DHaidian.  Our main gate, i.e. the north-central gate,
+ K! r2 C& f4 Z; {( J& q+ C3 Dis opposite the main south gate of the Beijing Yuyan
Wenhua Daxue (or Yuyan Xueyuan, or Beiyu).  From the
4 t' V1 t/ m2 S, ?; N" F7 Onorth-central gate, proceed about 200 meters south,
3 `: c; O  F5 w  ~8 g9 P$ g! m( ^  utill you come to a major crossroads; Dormitory 9 will
8 _  C$ ^; R- ^2 I% x7 r4 nbe on your right.  At the corner, turn right and
0 K, y/ a4 ^8 m# I- Jproceed about 300 meters. I live in Building 38, Flat
153.  Building 38 is a new six-floor structure that
! V9 t. m2 J' D$ |4 z3 _7 @3 Eyou will see on your left, inside an area with a black
3 U  q, H" l/ @1 qmetal fence and its own gateway. The building is
painted pale yellow and dark pink.  My telephone
number, in case you have any trouble finding the
place, is 8232-7485.

If you are coming from outside Beijing, the important
thing to know is that the campus is in Haidian Qu, in
the outer northwestern part of Beijing, about a
kilometer east of Qinghua University.  To get here,
7 W& s7 u5 M5 R2 b* F8 Jtell your taxi driver to take you to the south gate of
the Yuyan Xueyuan [the Beijing Language Institute].
Mention Wudaokou, the nearby market area.  The south
& U+ p9 k- e4 i4 f* {+ Y& xgate of the Yuyan Xueyuan and our north gate are both
on Chengfu Lu (cheng2fu3).  You can also get here by
taking the new light rail line (qinggui) from Xizhimen
( Q; C: @0 n# |: yunderground station to Wudaokou station and then
walking east on Chengfu Lu till you come to our
northwest or north-central gate, which will be on your
( ~# l& a2 W9 N# c' n7 Tright.
