Should students be skeptic to whatever they study and question what they are taught? In my viewpoint, we of course need the skepticism when we study. However, we should also learn to share the opinions contradicted to our selves and cooperate with others at some respects to make a harmony among people.

Firstly, the skepticism is essential for our study. Students are encouraged to study with skepticism in order to learn things more effectively and deeply rather than to overturn the theories and techniques. One can neither prove nor disprove something without having any opinion about it. Hence, in a sense, a student can put forward a question on a subject only when he or she has seriously considered it. In addition, after a student has raised a question, he will search for data to support his point of view, and it is through investigation that real understanding comes. Therefore, the students who are ready to doubt and challenge what they learn actively participate in the learning process, and this experience makes a deeper impression in their mind.

Secondly, it is of particular importance to cultivate our critical thinking skill so that by the time when facing a problem which has no definite answers, we will not be so nervous that our minds will not freeze regarding what to do. To witness the importance of critical thinking skill, one need look no further than in the job-hunter market. In the job interview, the employers usually ask you a question like this: how do you think our company advantages such as the good cooperation culture. It is too ordinary to convey the satisfied feelings and flatter the company. If you have a critical thinking ability and can promote some constructive suggestion besides the compliment, you will give the employer a deep impression and have more chance to be a member of the company.
However, with regard of education, in addition to encouraging questioning and skepticism, we should avoid creating an air of self-righteousness and find a balance between challenging others’ assertions and maintaining harmony and good cooperation among people. The benefit of cooperation is beautifully summed up in Ecclesiastes of the Bible as follows: Though one may be overpowered; two can defend themselves; a cord of three strands is not quickly broken. So besides skepticism, we should respect other people, taking account of other different views, and make a good cooperation with others to promote ourselves to the most extent.
To sum up, Students should have a certain skepticism of study to gain the real understanding which means they should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively. Meanwhile, we should respect others and consider the different views in the other angle rather than be the self-righteousness. If we can make a good balance between skepticism and good cooperation among people, we could make harmony society and gain personal success more easily.
