The speaker asserts that education will be truly effective only when it is specially designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student. While I concede that individual needs and interests play a vital role in promoting educational effectiveness, a comprehensive and general consideration of various knowledge and technique is essential in design for truly and long-term effective education.
Admittedly, needs and interests of each student convert to an intrinsic motivation and impetus in individual studying. If educators specially design the courses according to individual needs and interests, educators and students will have better cooperation and interaction among them for the reason that needs and interests of each student will impetus students to be active and initiative in learning process. For deep understanding and realization of their interested courses, learners will study assiduously with experienced guidance of teachers and join in discussing with classmates proactively in classes, which would bring about satisfactory studying results and the effectiveness of education.
However, undue emphasis on cultivating individual needs and interests at the expense of a broad field of vision can keep a individual from shaping an accurate worldview. It is known that a broad view origins from various and wide areas of knowledge and technique, whereas only heed to individual needs and interests would constraint the mind in a extremely narrow scope. For example in school, different courses have unique functions, for that mathematics teach people to reason and logic, arts teach people to appreciate the beauty, language teach people skills to communicate with others, and the like. A scientific prodigy, who devote himself or herself to mathematics and physics while neglect arts and language, would become a introverted person, even bigoted and world-weariness, which attribute to lack of aesthetics and communication. Thus, only design to meet the individual needs and interest probably cause narrow knowledge of students, then form a mistake worldview, which is dangerous to a long-term development of students.
Simply put, without considering the needs and interests of each student, students will lose a strongly effective motivation in their studying, while only design to meet the individual needs and interest students will fail the larger picture of the world. Accordingly, for the comprehensive and healthy development of students, it is better for educators to design some fundamental and compulsory courses to help students forming an accurate world view. At the same time it can set kinds of elective course to satisfy the individual needs and interests of each student.
In sum up, with considering the individual needs and interest of each student, education will become truly effective and democratic. Yet, excessive attention on needs and interest can prevent students from comprehensive perspective. Consequently, educators should set some fundamental courses for over-all view and some elective course for individual needs and interests.
