TOPIC: ISSUE38 - "In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books."

Following the development of science and technology, there are more and more new and advanced media appearing, the TV is one of these attractive methods, so that a great numbers alternatives for us to learn and appreciate the world where we are living in. However, while we enjoy the convenience brought by TV and other media, it is wise for us also give sufficient concern on tradition learn way-reading books.
It is well known that it is convenient to learn and understand the world where we are facing with by watching TV. There are many programs displaying on TV, raging from advanced scientific and technological reports to ordinary little devices, so that it is possible for us to get something what we desire and need only by sitting front TV. Moreover, it can wide our sight by watching some programs such as the Nature and National Geography. It enable for populace to know and attach to some fantastic but rare knowledge which could not be acquired by oneself for  those remote places one could not have been to during his life time.  In addition, the vivid pictures shown on TV are attractive to most of us, especially children compared to reading dull word on books.  From this point, watching TV could enlighten the sight of people, prompt the level of knowledge.
On the other hand, it is no denying that it would decrease the capacity of people to think and consider something only by watching programs. With the convenience of rapid gathering knowledge by watching TV, people incline to accept the opinions or ideas informing by TV rather than thinking by themselves. Obviously, for that matter, the ability of creation and invention of people would tend to fall down gradually even loosing the inspiration of inventive. It is no doubt the civilization of a society would be destroyed if what is like.
However, it deserves to console that every one of us are taught how to think by reading books. First of all, the explanation and demonstrate shown in books would motivate us to think whether the opinions are right or not for there are only questions in books rather than informed answers usually as TV’s. Moreover, it is always that no body could be consulted when you meet a problem during reading books. Thus, the only way for us to deal with the problem is by ourselves’ independent thinking. From this point, reading can help to absorb and accelerate understand knowledge.  What is more, it is possible for us to communicate with our ancestor living hundred years ago by reading, without the limit of time and location. Therefore, reading could assist us to conscious the development of ourselves and the process of change for human beings’ mind. Furthermore, it is possible for us to find relative something what we want whenever and wherever we are. For example, it is possible for us to get the whole information of one famous painter's  by reading his autobiography while the TV only provide few even nothing.
In sum, in order to understand the world and gather more useful knowledge well, it is good for us to combine both the advantages of TV and reading books.
