The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.36
一个人是否伟大是由后人评定的而非他同时代的人。

感觉逻辑有点乱,GF们帮我看一下啊

Can greatness of individuals be decided merely by the descendants? The speaker claims so. Nevertheless, in my personal point of view, this assertion goes to extreme. The greatness of individuals can be decided by the offspring, in some cases, but greatness of individuals mostly, as a matter of facts, are recognized by their contemporaries.

Admittedly, most genius and outstanding persons in their times were neglected, even persecuted by their contemporaries. Copernicus and Bruno are the cases. Their theories about the cosmic were scorned as heterodoxy, which strongly conflicts with the paradox of the authorities and the society. However, now their ideals are given much weight, even if their ideals are wrong in some extend. Usually, the greatness of individuals are recognized for their contributions to the society. Van Gogh, one of the greatest impressionistic painters never enjoyed his merited reputation. He just sold out one piece of his works, desperately dead at the prime of life because of poverty and depression. Now one of his works, known as the sunflower, turns out be worth one million of dollars. If their deeds and advanced ideals, though as true as they are, go beyond their contemporaries, they inevitably meet with scoff and sneer. On the other hand, if they are under stood by the people who live in their times, they are get recognition immediately.

In some field, such as the science and arts, the individuals can easily accepted by their contemporaries. Most people in history or nowadays enjoy their deserved honors and reputations. Shakespeare's dramatic works were popular in his time and liked by a myriad of people after him. Leonardo da Vinci's painting works meet with applauses all the time .Edison's inventions won his fame from his contemporaries and himself also is respected by people nowadays. Another solid case may support this point. That's the fact that every year's Noble Prizes are given to the living person, who make their great contributions to the science, literature, and the word peace. In this case, It’s no doubt that greatness of these individuals are decided by the people live in the same times.

With the development of human civilization, our society is becoming more and more comprehensive and people are more and more open-minded about new things ,even when fail in understanding them. When Einstein broached his Relative Theory, it’s said that only several people understood it then all over the world. However, his contemporaries didn’t misjudge him, on the contrast, the try best to find evidence to testify it.  Few people understand Hawken’s black hole theory ,but he enjoys a great reputation .

In conclusion, the greatness of individuals mostly get deserved recognition from their contemporaries as well as the descendents those follow by because of their immediate contributions to the society, while other further-going and advanced ideals of some genius or seemingly eccentric person will be decided by the descendents .Time and truth are the touchstone. The history is integrity and fair on the whole.

我就看看前后几段吧。

Can greatness ofindividuals be decided merely by the descendants? The speaker claimsso. Nevertheless, in my personal point of view, this assertion goes toextreme. The greatness of individuals can be decided by the offspring,in some cases, but greatness of individuals(可以省略) mostly, as a matter offacts, they can be recognized by their contemporaries.

Admittedly, most genius andoutstanding persons in their times were neglected, even persecuted bytheir contemporaries. Copernicus and Bruno are the cases. Theirtheories about the cosmic were scorned as heterodoxy, which stronglyconflicts with the paradox (与权威和社会矛盾疑点相冲突?)of the authorities and the society. However, now their ideals are given much weight(受重视不能这么表达吧,用widely accepted ), even if their ideals are wrong to some extend. Usually, the greatness (也可以用achievemnent ,value等来代替greatness不要重复,单调的使用一个词)of individuals are recognizedfor their contributions to the society. Van Gogh, one of the greatestimpressionistic painters never enjoyed his merited reputation. He justsold out one piece of his works, and finally desperately died at the prime of life(没必要这么说,中式讲法吧)because of poverty and depression. Now one of his works, known as thesunflower, turns out be worth of one million of dollars. If their deedsand advanced ideals, though as true as they are, go beyond theircontemporaries, they inevitably meet with scoff and sneer. On the otherhand, if they are understood by the people who live in their times, they are get recognition immediately.

Thehistory is integrity这个词也太抽象太大再说integrity是名词 and fair on the whole.

灰色是我觉得应该删去的。比以前的文章有进步,比较注意语言了,还是有中翻英的痕迹,再接再厉!:handshake
