Should education be designed to cater the individual needs and interests of each student? In my point of view, education should pay more attention on the needs and interests of students. After all, everyone is different from others, thus, they want to be different and they should to be different people. So they need to absorb different knowledge which is necessary to them.

   In the first place, student-oriented education is the most effective way to help students to improve themselves in the process of learning. As somebody put it, “interest is the best teacher”. Students’ interests are the most powerful force for students to absorb new knowledge and make innovation with knowledge. A case in point is the story of watson and crick who discovered the structure of DNA, interest is so important to them that they work day and night till they find it. In addition, students’ needs should be emphasized because it will be strange letting students learn something which has no use at all.

In the second place, over-specified education will narrow down students’ ken and capability of acclimation to future career. If a student always learns what teacher ask him or her to learn, he or she will memorize so many numbers and letters or something else in his or her brain. But the student can not use what he or she learns at all, and become a victim of teacher-oriented education. For instance, some students graduate from their university can not do anything, taking a test is the only thing they can do.

   However, this does not mean that the only purpose of this kind of education is to satisfy the individual needs and interests of each student. For one thing, it is meaningless and impractical to fulfill all students. We do not have so much teachers and so much money, in the same time, students have numerous kinds of interests which are impossible to fulfill all of them. What's more, some students do not have enough abilities to determine what to learn. For example, some students do not like to learn mathematics, but can they give up it? Of course not, over-emphasizing on students' interests will end in chaos.

  To sum up, there is no easy solution to make all people convinced with my view on this controversial issue due to their different experience, and conflicting values. However, discussion in the above will certainly contribute to the thorough understanding of the problem.
