TOPIC: ISSUE130 - "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."
WORDS: 454 TIME: 2h+
The controversy of how we should socialize children is ceaseless throughout the contemporary society. The children, backbone in the foreseeable future, always attract a great deal of attention from all spheres of society who have vigorous intention to avail improving the education system. However, there exist numerous unsolved problems in the profound education reform whose achievements are overshadowed by these problems.
Education is an all-inclusive and open-ended word especially when involving the children. It consists of complicated machinery assisted by parents, teachers, universities and governments at all levels, and influenced by trend of thought, policies, and doctrines of all forms. Because of the children's immaturity and innocence, careful attention will be paid to the process of educating them. Therefore, parents keep eyes staring at their sons and daughters when they have physical practice; teachers have conversation heart to heart with the young students, intending to help them escape from psychological depression; instructors make specific plan to fulfill their promises of leading graduates to the pantheon of science. All these efforts have added lungs to the ladder of education direct to prosperity of human beings, generation after generation.
However, despite the diligent endeavor of the entire society, education today reveals problems that surely undermine the achievement accomplished hitherto and even symbolize crisis nationwide. In the oriental countries, like China and Japan whose population density keeps a fantastic level, secondary education system are guided by the college entrance examination. Since most of the senior schools place undue emphasis on the proportion of students entering university of high level, and since the examination-oriented education attaches great importance on the scores of just one or two exam, students in these countries usually find themselves overwhelmed by endless exercises, homework and papers. Since the tedious repeats on single subject, students commonly find themselves excluded from reality, their creativity diminished, their skill to cooperate with others weakened and their psychological burden increased. All these phenomena signify an obstacle needed to overcome in the process of reform.
By contrast, the higher education system in these countries awaits more strengthened reform. Since society regards diploma as the first certificate of one's true talents, some of the undergraduates as well as the graduates put little emphasis on the promotion of political integrity and professional ability. What they take into consideration primarily is to pass the examination and earn a diploma. It would result in the tragedy of lackness of talent in society if fallacy of this kind remains unsolved.
In summary, the dilemma in education reform still requires dedication of whole country. So it is the high time the governments and universities took their reform projects into reality and the student in all ages unite to take their own responsibility of renewing the education.
