ISSUE130 How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not learnt yet how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.
现在孩子的社会化程度决定了社会的命运. 可惜的是,我们还没有学会教孩子怎么样去建设一个更好的社会.

    The speaker claims that children determine the destiny of society, but we don’t know how to teach them to build a better society. In my view, this statement is too extreme, in two respects. First, socialize level of children is indeed the important fact to society’s destiny rather than determine it. And secondly, the development of society is a procedure of practice, no one know how to bring about a better society but to discover better methods than ever before.
    Admittedly, the destiny of society won’t be determines by people but affect by them. Marx said, the development of human society was a procedure of nature history. There are so many factors that will exercise a great influence upon the development of society. Such as the youth, the hero, great man, the social system, the culture of a nationality and so on. Here is an example, the Italian Renaissance. A lot of famous poets, artists, architects, and scientists such as Dante, Leonardo da Vinci, and Galileo were lived during that period. Their ideas, works and inventions made a profoundly influence to the west European society and even the whole world of human society. At the same argument, some huge wars and important social changes will also work on the destiny of society. For example, the World War Two had even transformed the types of society in many countries. And at some extent, it accelerated the development of human civilization and the science. Particularly, German followed America and Japan, climbed up to the third economic country of the world after this war although it was deeply suffered from two large wars.
    Secondly, as we know that how children are socialized today will do a big effect on the destiny of society. Especially at our knowledge economy society, the level of science and technology education and diathesis of the member of society is becoming the foundation of the socialized today. Therefore, people tend to pay a lot of attention on how to raise a child to help to bring up a better society. And already found some systemic methods basically at four aspects. At first, a child may earn a certain statue in a family as soon as he or she was born. Hence, the parents play a particular role among the children’s socialization. Because it is the most important time help a person to socialize during his or her childhood. So, family people often take serious consideration to the parenthood. Furthermore, teach by personal example as well as verbal instruction from parents is exert a subtle influence on the children at language, sensibility, role, experience, knowledge, ability and moral standard. The second place for a person to socialize is the school which is a institution amid at initiate the social criterion, values, knowledge and abilities to person in a systematically, calculated and purposeful way. To receive a good school education will improve the children to acquire knowledge from society and inspire the motivation of them to be success, also provide them much more opportunities to attend social activities. The third aspect-mass media. The mass media is also an important means to socialization. How to use movies, music, radio, papers, magazine and especially the internet to offer the children large and useful information is important for their socialization. And the last one is the reference group. That is a group which can offer standards on their personal attitude, behavior and self-estimate for a person. It may be a party or a league, also could be a kind of religions. It will be benefit to a person if he is affected by those groups which own healthy spirits.
    In sum, education for the children will profoundly influence the destiny of society. However, the socialization is procedures that will impenetrate all one’s life. Therefore, I think, we should pay more attention to the entire member in our society, not just the children.
