ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
提纲:
Talking about the education, there is a widely received view, as the speaker agues, only when the education is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student it will be truly effective. However, it is equally important that the education system should cover more aspects in order to help the students develop roundly both in skills and personalities.
Education should encourage individual interests, and, if possible, do as much as they can to meet the individual needs because of the significance of interests in study and research. There are many luminaries who make great contribution to the human society due to their curiosities and unstopping seeking. Without their passions, in form of perseverance and hardworking, though talents are they, there would never be so many great discoveries and great progresses. Take Thomas Alva Edison as an example, if he did not have strong interest in inventing a bulb, how could we expect him to try more than one thousand times to find out a proper filament? And, we may probably live in darkness
It is true that the education should take the needs and interests of each student into consideration, whereas, currently; the society can not afford this completely. If the education system determine to make efforts to meet the needs of each student, that would cost a lot. Unfortunately, the resource of the society are always limited, and the government must face dozens of serious social problems, pollution, poverty, continuing wars, widening wealth gap, for instance, at the same time. The government has to focus on some problems which are more urgent. Therefore, that is not practical to meet every student's needs and interests.
Another facet that can not be neglected is that students should take some common courses, such as mathematics, history, ethnics, and so on to develop basic skills, and further more, round personalities. The society needs people do jobs which require corresponding skills. The students, who are under educated in schools or colleges now, will eventually get into the society. The future workers should be full developed and personality-rounded because these jobs may call for cooperation and their own job ethics. A person, who is only willing to do what he or she likes, will probably has a tough life, and it is really hard for him or her to have a bright future.
In the contemporary world, as the reasons concerned above, a truly effective education system should make a balance between the students' singularities and their full personality, for both are essential. |
