TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
In this era, when the development of individuation is emphasized, it is more effective that diversification of education that meet the needs and interests of students is carried out.
An educational system that can take into account the specific needs and interests of each student will help the students to fully develop their distinct potential and talent. In such an educational system which is scientific and highly effective, students feeling enjoyable and appreciated will be more motivated to study. Then we can get twice the result with half the effort.
People may take for granted that the more specifically designed education one can get according to one’s own needs and interests, the more effective it will turn out to be, since students will be much more actively engaged in study without the necessity to learn what does not interest them, or what seem to be of no apparent help to their future careers. So the most effective way is to specifically designed education to meet the individual needs and interests of each student However, it is unrealistic. Such an educational pattern does not make full use of modern educational resources. Compared with the great population of students, the teaching resource is limited even deficient. For this reason, it is out of the question to set a exhaustive education project and to admeasure the resource specifically for each student according to their interests.
Students are likely to involve themselves more actively in study if they are offered a unique education designed according to their interests and needs. But even if assuming that the teaching resource is sufficient, specifically designed education should not take the place of traditional general education. Nowadays the society calls for a balance in which there are both specialists and generalists. If an education system excessively lay stress on the individual interests, there might be a mass of students having a narrow range of knowledge. Meanwhile, the traditional education probably brings specialist developing comprehensively.
What we advocate is not a rigescent education pattern but a diversification of education that meet the needs and interests of students. Although complete liberty in designing education is not available to all individual students, schools is responsible to try their best to offer more choices and autonomy to students as long as the quality of compulsory education is guaranteed. For instance, for students of school of life science, to satisfy their different needs and interests, schools can establish the diverse direction of elective such as zoology and botany and so forth. in the light of this method, it will effectively balances specialization and generalization.
Consequently, due to analysis and reasons mentioned above, which sometimes intertwine to form an organic whole and thus become more persuasive than any one of them, we may safely arrive at the conclusion that it is more effective to carry out diversification of education that meet the needs and interests of students.
