There are widespead debates about the function of learning a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people. Some strongly argue that the only way by observing the appearance and behavior of a socieyt's people to learn the ideas and values of the society is effective, but I fundamentally oppose to the foregoing attitude and believe that we can take the information through many other ways.

To begin with, the ideas and values throughout the process of history have shapen the appearance and behavior of its people. The function of time gradully cultivates the minds and conceptions of value through religious conduction. Here is a good example, which can prominently illustrate the conclusion. In the Mid East the woman has to hide her face and body by veil from the people, except for her husband and family members, according to the law of some countries in the Mid East. Even she sometimes swims in the sea, wearing a black suit as the precaution of being seen by other people. Maybe we feel their behaviors ridiculous and absurd. However, this is their tradition. They have faith that the naked body is evil. So we cannot simply appreciate the values by our own standards.

Nevertheless, there are many other ways as the path to the comprehension of some others' ideas and values. Along with the evolution of time and history, the literature, music and the styles of building are all the mirrors of the development of a society. Just consider, in the past we only used the wooden and mental instruments to express our feelings and ideas. But nowadays with the great help of the industrizalion of electronics, some engineers place the factor of electronics into the music, since the sound, far from the origin, brings us some more perspectives towards the ideas of our senses. The new element of music contributes to the emergence of electronical guitar, which boost the development of rock'n'roll and pop dance, which most youths in western countries prefer because of the strong rhythm and dynamical melody.And then the people make use of those to express the aspiration of freedom nowadays.  It is impossible to neglect the other ways in which we can learn the changes of our society.

It is dangerous to rely on the appearence and behavior of people to learn the essence of a society. With the prompt advancement of technology and science the appearence and behavior of people is, more or less, influenced by the mainstream culture. For example, many youngers in China dress in fat T-shirts and jeans and rap in some public places because of the invasion of Hip-Hop, which generated and developed in America. Can we depend on this to inform people that why Chinese get together in Spring Festival and the history of Beijing Oprea? The answer is definitely no.

In sum, the advancement of history affects us in a variety of aspects. And meanwhile the unique tradition and distinctive culture is the essence of the morality and conception of value of one society. If we rests on only one aspect of the changes, we will place the real comprehension of one society in jeopardy. The society calls for a balance between outside and inside observation of a society to understand it.
