I agree with the speaker that the quality of instruction might be improved by faculties spending time working outside the academic world. An experience which is different from daily teaching will provide the faculty much motivation. However, it is hard to shift all faculties to work outside the academic world, and whether the improvement of the quality of education is just based on faculties’ outside works is dubious.
At first, some faculties’ works which are outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach will provide a positive influence to the quality of instruction. For example, faculties who work in colleges belong to(belonging to) engineering field will achieve(用get或者receive意思比较对) some financial support if they take part in some engineering projects. College can use this money to improve education(educational) facilities. Professors will also be motivated and gain more experiences in their research field, which are good for there education and for improving (需要冠词the)quality of instruction.(逻辑关系不明确,层次不明显,建议在Professors前面加个moreover)
However, requiring all faculties to spend time working outside the academic world is not feasible. As far as we know, the faculty(faculty好像是复数名次), who is a human, owns unique disposition. Some professors are explicit, while others are implicit(这两个词到底适合不适合我不确定但是我觉得比较奇怪). To ask a professor who is implicit to work outside the academic world with others might be an enormous infliction for him or her. Maybe do research themselves is a better choice(语法错误,两个动词,建议改成maybe by doing research on himself in the lab is a better choice). In this situation, such work will not provide improvement to these faculties and education, but a harmful influence, since such professors are inflicted and might loss interests in teaching and researching.
Another reason why this proposal is not feasible is that in some fields, there is no such area(professions) outside the academic world. Realms like mathematics, physic, and the like are fields (which) need pure theory research. There are few works outside their research fields to do. Professors in these areas are just needed (to) delve, research, and prove theorems in laboratory. Requiring them to do what other professors do seems awkward and not feasible.
What’s more, the improvement of education(educational) quality which depends on faculties working outside the academic world is limited. The criteria of evaluating the quality of instruction are not only whether teachers perform well, how many works outside their research region teachers take, or how much knowledge professors know, but also what the education brings to students. An education which can give students abundant knowledge is not enough. It must teach students to know what morality is and what virtue is. Students should be taught to own an appropriate value, a sense of equality, freedom, democracy, and the like. If they could not be taught to our students, it is hard to admit that this kind of educational system has a high quality of instruction(建议删除).(这段从教育的真正目的来说,我觉得思路不错,值得学习)
In sum, it is necessary to require some faculties who teach engineering subjects and the like working(require sb. to do) outside their academic world. To some extent, it benefits the quality of instruction. However, it is not feasible and necessary to ask every faculty to do so. We should also be careful to treat the real meaning of quality of education. We should not improve education just depend(depending) on faculties’ outside works.
