Please read this notice carefully from start to finish. A response from you is required in order to continue processing your application.
While the review of your application is not finished, the members of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science admissions committee would like to recommend that you be admitted for graduate degree study at the University of California, Irvine beginning in the Fall 2008 academic term.
Please note that this is a recommendation only, for admission without financial support. Before you can be officially admitted we will need to received proof of financial support documents from you. Limited resources are available for financial support, including research or teaching assistantships and fellowships. Unfortunately, all such funds are already committed and, if admitted, we cannot provide you any financial support.
Before we can confirm the recommendation of the Review Committee, we must see proof that you have the financial support necessary to obtain a VISA and support yourself throughout your time at UC Irvine.
The cost of living is high in Southern California. You will incur the following estimated minimum expenses at UC Irvine during the academic year 2008-2009. You will face similar expenses during each subsequent year:
* Non-Resident Tuition/Fees (3 quarters): $24,644
* Room/Board, Books, Supplies, Transportation: $13,000
In order to obtain visa documents to come to the United States you will be required to show proof of financial support in the amount of $37,644 for the nine-month academic year beginning mid-September 2008. This number could be higher if you are being accompanied by family members. More details can be found at the UC Irvine International Center website linked below.
You will need to send us a financial statement from your banking institution, showing that you can indeed support yourself while studying here at UC Irvine. (The financial verification documents you submit for this purpose should be recent, and must be valid for at least 6 months from the day they are received.)
Additionally, you must submit the International Graduate Student Packet, available online in the forms section of the UC Irvine International Center website at http://www.ic.uci.edu. Please carefully follow the instructions and return your completed paperwork to the Graduate Student Admissions Coordinator.
Should you have any questions about the University's financial verification requirements as they relate to visa documents, you are welcome to contact the International Center staff for advice at intl@uci.edu.
The Admission Committee will be able to make the final review only after we have received the required documentation. If approved for admission, you will be officially notified (by e-mail, and by mail to your current mailing address), and the International Center will begin preparing your visa paperwork.
Unfortunately, we are not prepared to offer admission deferrals at this time; this recommendation is for the Fall 2008 quarter only. If you are unable to come to campus for any reason you will have to reapply in order to be considered for re-admission.
Please respond by e-mail to ragran@uci.edu within two weeks of receiving this notice. If we do not hear from you by then, we will assume that you will be unable to attend in Fall 2008.
